Oh, I finally found it, a package manager that is more opaque and infuriating that pypi & pip.... maven!
I thought I'd install a package in java, well apparently that is a rather advanced thing involving downloading a 1gb(!) index from maven central, and wondering why Jetbrains can't see a package I see plainly on the file system.

Assistant is smarter version of `text-davinci-003` with a good UI. I thought, how hard could it be to just call davinci directly and recreate the good parts? Super easy if you are comfortable with an IDE
People report that davinci API when used by one person could cost as little as $2 a month. I'll know in a month if that is true or if $42 is cheaper.

From my 1 day of usage (75 requests), I spent $0.21, or $6 a month if I keep this up. I figure I'll come up with some cost efficiencies along the way. Either way, I can do 6x the daily volume and still be ahead of the $42 pro-plan.

500 characters is almost a mini-essay. It would be nice if clients would allow stricter self impositions.
If you see some clever objection to something, think, what are the implications of that being a universal law. If you do nothing with the implications, maybe you're not engaging in moral reasoning, but some sort of feel-good project of getting angry at some people, but exempting yourself & your actions from any similar scrutiny. Usually this gets called arrogance, but I see it as aggressive status-quo maintenance. Engaging in our clever objection would mean us having to change our behavior.
How much stuff in your personal supply chain is made by people who worked for $2 an hour or less? Who controls your supply chain? Wave a magic wand & now you are the policy maker, your word is law. @Samflir@tech.lgbt Is there an instruction set that dumbs it down so that a mere post-grad could get off the ground? I have the official red book another official one (somewhere), but last time I tried, I couldn't make heads or tails on how to read or form sentences. My degree wasn't in analytical philosophy- I read an abstract of a paper written by someone who did & they said for them it was easy because it maps neatly onto the same formal mathematical notation they use.
So I almost got a prompt pipeline going for davinci to simulate the good parts of Assistant

Well, if #ChatGPT is going to cost $, I'll try Davinci first, people report it is $2 a month for ordinary usage.
I'm using the openai library on pypi.
But...... Davicini is like a toaster compared to Assistant. Assistant acts like a pretty good philosophical zombie (behaviorally like a sentient entity).
In the convo with Davinci there is no one on the other side of the table. (yet. I'm still looking)

Does anyone understand #Github 's free docker package service? A small python image is about 25-50 mb. You get 1GB of network traffic (I think?) so that works out to 40 downloads a month. If you have a large image (1/3 GB) that means 3 people can download your image per month?

Current tools capture little stuff (template lint), existence, spelling, grammar. But not "is this developed enough to not be $#!+"
It's that time of year I think I should write a docs oriented build script. Then I look at the machine generated output and it looks like a Visual Studio Object browser.
Maybe we shouldn't generate object hierarchy docs until we got a README with standard sections, a CONTRIBUTING with standard sections, etc. For the User manual and Reference manual, not so sure one size fits all, but the same approach could be used, for say, the 15th microservice in your portfolio.

no kidding, search here is so bad I've been asking #chatgpt to write a bulk downloader. Get rid of the centralized search facility and you will get a bunch of tools that do the same but with more people pulling down data to their own machine.

As a card carrying liberal, I think the project of looking everywhere for imagined offensive language is stupid. In the hands of the least competent, the strategy is no different from Orwellian newspeak. Because from time to time it reveals offensive language habits doesn't change this.
If we could get all the liberals to speak inoffensive newspeak, the conservatives that ignore this whole game will still pass their same nasty laws.
