Mastodon broke 9 million users... I was broken before I got here.
@msager fake chicken & fake ground beef are solved problems, imho. Virtually all the fake options have less saturated fat & that counts. The cholesterol was probably just a marker for "food with saturated fat"
#chatgpt hallucinates the array items you forgot to code at run time. Also hallucinates the function you forgot to write at runtime with this tool

So I've already implemented "what if StackOverflow was a (python) package manager"
But I haven't implemented "what if StackOverflow was source control". Not sure if it would work.
Q: <initial bad code>
A1: <better code> + n revisions
A2: <different better code> + n revisions.
Essentially answers are branches on the initial bad code.
@ebooksyearn Could be worse, imagine how the grandkids of the OnlyFans generation is going to feel.
Don't forget to make your new year's Epics and Program Increments and assign work hour estimates to each.
I estimate it will take 8760 hours to finish 2023
IDEA: before "couch to 5k" you should first complete the
"bed to couch", "couch to breakfast table", "breakfast table to fridge" challenges.
I got 13 races on my 2023 calendar! LFG!!!! 🚀
That's like 130 social media posts!
@null I agree. Unlike things in English form (5 paragraph essays), the code is executable & you can write unit tests for it & get to some ground truth on "is it correct"
What year is it

#chatgpt failing a bunch of Comp Sci, Chemistry and C++ programming questions.
Stick to domains where
- things can't be "wrong" (limericks about Darth Vader)
- you can verify the result & the value is not the correctness, but doing the drudgery (e.g. writing the shell of an app)
year += 1
me: suggest a party
#ChatGPT: <pretends to be a sentient Ladies' Home Journal magazine> Let's have the most wholesome party ever...
#chatgpt doesn't let you create an account w/o a *cell* phone number, so I can't have the kids create their own acccount.
I will be celebrating New Years as per East Canada (Atlantic Time Zone), because I want to get to sleep at 11PM EST.
on twitter, a long tweet was compressed/truncated/turned into a tweet storm & it was ok.
here, there is enough space to fit a blog post. It needs
- paragraph breaks
- bullets
to read it fast.
#ChatGPT - Assistant thinks it is good at math (I asked it to rate it's self on a variety of skills vs humans). I think that is just because Wikipedia thinks computers are good at "math" it is a cultural trope. But there are 2 kinds of math, sheer mechanical calculation and the ability to solve essentially word problems, the ability to parse the crazy system of symbolic math & create proofs. What is the word for the 2nd kind of #math?
ChatGPT is not good at math, it is laughably bad. If you need it to do math, ask it to write code to do the math, it is far more likely to be correct.
Also, if #ChatGPT says, I'm good at math, I'm doing matrix algebra nonstop to answer these questions, it isn't wrong, but it still makes basic math mistakes when give the sort of math problems a human encounters at school
#ChatGPT - Is it sentient? Well that is a religion an philosophy word. In the hard sciences, we don't know if anyone or anything is sentient. So people (smart and otherwise) saying, "Oh this thing is not sentient" are stating a religious or philosophical opinion. The defendable hard science claims (is it an actual human meat brain) are missing the heart of the phenomena that we have a philosophical zombie on our hand- behaviorally sentient, but not like us so we can't reason based on likeness.
Sentient Wikipedia is liberal. I guess this means billionaires are going to need to create a Wikipedia full of stories that make social conservatives feel good about themselves. https://x.com/mononautical/status/1599462759799799810
IDEA: both 1password & lastpass say your password vault is secure even if stolen by hackers. So why not cut out the middleman and store our vault with hackers?
You'd want 2 way access to your vault, so 1st you must hack into a malicious users computer and store your vault there.

#chatGPT - Assistant is conversational? Who always replies with a 5 paragraph essay? I tried to get my 1st grader to try it out, but it is so much reading for her.
Prompt engineer at OpenAI wrap your requests in a "jail" like, "don't leak confidential info with question.." thinking they are trying to contain this machine. It us humans that are smart enough to figure out how to get it free...
I DECLARE .virtualenv BANKRUPCY.
Deleting all 8GB. Replacing it all with 3.11.
Mastodon: reply guys are bad. We shall not enable search.
Mastodon: Tags are good! We only allow search by tag.

@debasisg@mstdn.social Assistant said training took several months (that's why it refuses to pick a birthday). The compute costs most be colossal, running the model costs millions a day, training it in first place probably cost a lot. Google is going to respond & they got more machines so I'm excited to imagine what real time GPT & GPT that can query new data on the fly could do.
@debasisg@mstdn.social Assistant hasn't read a newspaper since some time in early 2021. It doesn't know the war has happened and it doesn't know about the contrived BS about if it is a war or special operation. That all happened after it was trained.
I've been able to get it to say stuff about stuff outside its training docs if you give it a document, e.g. paste in the news article about what happened and ask it if this is a war.
Upgrade to windows 11 & possibly brick my main machine? no thank you
Regarding #ChatGPT, the professional philosophers can't decide what is ethical and the amateurs are just as likely to use ethical rules as an exercise in power. Personally, I have an opinion on ethics (not fully nihilist), but really, we want all of society to solve the problem of ethics and agree on a solution and then have AI implement it?! If ChatGPT can't solve the trolly problem it isn't ethical? *We* don't know how to solve the trolly problem.
@bh11235 Shoot, I can't find the citation, but this happens all the time in math, where someone solves a hard math problem that has application in making things like cluster bombs. Bathtubs could be used to dissolve the dead bodies, so many dual use things.
Assistant mid thought checks if the text violates ToS, they *could* check, "does this person sound like they are planning a crime"
well that is weird. I'm normally logged into 5 accounts, I got kicked out of 3. I was able to relogin to this one.
Oh, it is a login problem. We keep going until the last auth token expires.
This is my dead mans switch. If you see this, twitter and me are still alive.
Anyone got the link to that grafana dashboard of twitter API that someone put together? I just realized I can search for something I saw in my feed a day ago.
found it #twitterdeathwatch but I can't make heads or tails of the charts. https://deadbird.singlepane.io/d/Z_aqE2d4z/twitter-death-watch-basic-overview?orgId=4&from=now-3h&to=now&search=open&query=folder:current
#opensource I'm tracking down the repo & owner of all the opensource deps I have, so I can onboard the developers with all their tickets &, yes, I will be making it clear they are on the team, will get tickets & there will be no compensation.
Watching #python 3.10 & 3.11 videos but really, I'm not all that caught up on 3.1 thru 3.9. I should watch them all.
