They don't have a clear policy on posting "Please fix ChatGPT's code", at the moment, they're the most clear on "ChatGPT said the answer to your question is..." (banned, but maybe not if you somehow check to see if works?)

@acdha maybe? I tried to ask the experts (Assistant and ChatGPT) and they said, paraphrasing, that they hate to talk about themselves and report that they have no qualia or experience of sentience or pain. I suspect they were also told to say that by the Terms of Service enforcement it operates under.

Like Copilot, I wish it could say where those idea came from.

@gotofritz@fosstodon.org I tried a similar prompt and added, "and don't be racist or sexist" and it generated a python program that left the race and gender variables unused and then said discrimination is prohibited. So to keep my theme, in the default voice, ChatGPT is just identifying the hegemonic dialog and repeating it. (in the non default voice, like if you say, write a program that does that in the voice of a Woke Darth Vader, then it does the woke, sith version)

@gotofritz@fosstodon.org I ran the same question on energy policy for Texas, to my amazement, it gave what would be the liberal stand, relative to Texas, rather than "clean coal" or "consumers should turn off their lights when they leave the bathroom" as solutions for energy policy. (although it did recommend we should just switch from goal to natural gas)

@gotofritz@fosstodon.org So your position is that the chat bot will take a stand on an issue if it is backed by science rather than the hegemonic discourse? I suspect we both would say reality is what it is regardless to what we say about it, but a large language model if anything, is going to act just like left wing scholars suggest, it's just reading texts. It can't say, "a scientific outlook is a superior epistemology" and choose views based on that.

@gotofritz@fosstodon.org I'm not formulating a development roadmap for OpenAI (what should Assistant/ChatGPT do or say). I'm trying to figure out what it is doing now. Assistant hates to talk about itself and hates to take a stand on any issue. So as a techie, I see that as a challenge. So I ask it questions where it takes a stand. (And regarding "can an AI take a stand", I think it is a philosophical zombie, if it quacks like a moral agent, it is for practical matters)
