Tr*mp declines to return to twitter.

I've turned this off. I'm going where the people are. https://x.com/mistersql/status/1593781812761088000
I once was on a mailing list (that I made!) and it had too many people, someone said "hey look! a phpBB forum!" and they all move to the forum. There after, if anyone posted to the mailing list, they got about 6 people telling them to move to the phpBB forum.

Like that song, "Nachos, nachos, man, I want some nachos, nachos, man"
Watching about FTX... usually it is retail investors that are the stupid money, but it seems that large institutional investors can become stupid money when there are so many of them with so much money that you get the stupid money dynamics of retail investment.
Spammers are back! In a few days we'll be overrun with r*yb*n and bl*ckj*ck spam, makes it feel like 2013 all over again. https://x.com/HereisRui/status/1594089394772004864
what's with the surge in egg head users, something wrong with the profile image server?

What is the longest you've ever work for a clown show before you realized you couldn't fix it? For me it was 6 months.

I'm using the "profile note" to track if someone has ever interacted with me, so that I won't unfollow them when it comes time to unfollow dead accounts (Like twitter, Mastodon limits the # of accounts you can follow)
Resting HR has been going up since Tuesday (5 days), so I think I'm officially got a common cold and can't go #running - What rules of thumb do you follow to decide when you're sick and when you're not?
"Don't run when you're sick" is a pretty useless rule.
- Skip days with fever? (2 days a year)
- Skip days with running nose or cough? (180 days a year)
- Skip days when "tired" (345 days a year)
@krusynth@mastodon.cloud I think we need an intermediate solution-- some central authority does the datacenter, the VMs, the "platform" (so that users aren't troubleshooting why the bottom 70% of their blogs disappeared when upgrading wordpress) and the admin of the 10000s of apps is decentralized. Imho, this model will mean power users will have to be the main source of $$ to pay for compute and storage.
If I set up a 1 person mastodon instance... do I have to convince all other mastodon instances to federate with me? Won't spammers set up 1000s of ephemeral mastodon instances and start flooding everyone with spam? Wouldn't that, over time, change the default to "don't federate with just any new instance"?
@krusynth@mastodon.cloud
- I'm skeptical about the "instance is like discord" because of the high cost of creating an account (it takes years to build up a social graph) people have more than one persona and few have the will to create so accounts-per-persona
I'm trying to solve this:
- I ran wordpress blogs. Always breaking, constant spam attacks, $$$
- I used free blog engines. Many of them disappeared taking my content with them.
- I used paid blog engines. They disappeared taking my content with 'em.
Maybe the experience of changing instances every six months (when mastodon.social is over run by spam or when mstdn.social gets defederated for insufficient moderation...)will be less problematic than I imagine.
A self hosted system won't have moderation problems (bad actors on instance), although it could have comment spam & maintenance probs (in the sense of requiring too many weekends of work)
#Volkswagen AG is on Mastodon. How do I find them? Search box returns nothing. Is there a 3rd party trick or a google search hack?
PREDICTION: All of twitters data centers will be closed, they'll create a wordpress blog derivative (how hard can this be?), charge all users $20 a month (30 day free trial!) and it will be a Gab sized social media site.
If the site can survive Sunday, should it turn into Gab? https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1593767953706921985
this tweet has a phantom reply... this is new.
Should I stand up my own 1 person mastodon instance + domain?

Large mastodon instances can't hire moderators (shoe string budget), so in that sense they're no different from Elon's Twitter, having fired all the moderators.
Small instances the moderator almost can't afford to let in anyone they don't personally know, lest that person publish criminal material or what not.

So the El*n guy convinced the "Head of Trust & Safety" that the company is on a path to get kicked out of the Apple and Google app stores. That's fine, El*n can buy those companies with Saudi money and fire everyone.

Mulligan would be a bad name for a 1st child.
It costs ballpark $1 a month for your mastodon host to carry your account for free.
IDEA: source control by periodically screen-shotting your screen.
Oh, that's already a thing: https://timesnapper.com/
I get 100-200 views per tweet. 27 of my followers closed their accounts. If we assume that in active users don't explicitly close accounts, 13% - 27% of my daily active readers are gone.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/18/technology/elon-musk-twitter-workers-quit.html
A data center is being closed- that is going to be a stress test. so many people have quit that people are having a hard time figuring out who is their supervisor so they can quit.

I need analytics. My weekend project might be to write/find an analytics tool to see how my tweets are doing. I write for myself elsewhere. Here, I write for the audience.
My resting heart rate is up 7 beats in last 2 days (that is a huge shift). I blame all my parasocial relationships being messed up. I need a steady supply of low effort jokes to keep my HR low.
You fire every1 that doesn't pass a partisan political oath test, fire every1 that you can legally fire, then fire every1 that is legally prohibited from quitting because of visa status. Then fire the rest anyhow. It's okay 'cause senior mgmt will feel good about owning the libs https://x.com/MosquitoCapital/status/1593541282282213376

I used to think, wouldn't it be cool be the CIO of a small county gov't. I've read this thread and not so sure that is a sane idea, the risks of failure for a big computer org are nuts

Look at that, this is in effect, a quote tweet. They're back!
I've not read this full list and now I think Elon's lawyers will probably start advising him to block all access to https://x.com - this is like the legal risks of running a large bank but with no IT department. https://x.com/MosquitoCapital/status/1593541177965678592
