KATA: write twitter in a weekend.
I'm going to aggregate change log files. How would you do it?

IDEA: we all join patreon and give each other 8 dollars a month. After netting out, we should all break even.
I just want a filter just to toggle on/off & see tweets by my mutuals. That such a feature exists, like nowhere, makes me think that all these systems are programmed by broadcasters (people who tweet but don't really care about the relationships & interaction- mutuals are friends, everyone else is merely a potential)
META*: I vow to make no more meta posts for 90 days.
* META as in, stuff talking about itself, poetry about poetry, novels about novelists, tweeting about twitter, tooting about Mastodon. I guess a VR version of 2nd life is on-topic.
Things I have thought about spending $ on
- one of those microblog services (almost twitters)
- a self hosted mastodon instance (yeah, not sure I want to adopt that puppy though)
I'm a twitter addict & a power user, I should be the category of person most excited by the prospect
of a paid account. I never got twitter blue because it was a pretty modest feature premium. That hasn't changed with the latest incarnation of the thing.
Strava's premium features do seem to be a step above their free offerings tho.♡ 0 ↻ 0

@msager holiday vacations are coming up. It is the best time of the year for a side project.
thoughts- can new ownership change the political center of the user base (or make conservaties happy)? I doubt it. Can the new ownership make twitter like myspace (suddenly everyone is gone, political and not- as often the front page is a nodejs error page)? Yes.
IDEA: social media site based on nginx config. When you are traveling to Hawaii, you update your 404 page. When you are sick, you update your 500 page. When you are being asked out on a date, you redirect them them to your 403 page.
Just look at all the El*n M*sk with a blue check mark. This is just the beginning.

Also, I just about never see ads on twitter, let alone half as many or better ones. What's the odds they put up those "turn off your ad blocker!" things?

Does this have analytics beyond follower count & comment count? Have I gone viral yet?
Photos here load like it is 1998 on a 56k modem. If the fediverse is a collection of raspberry pis in volunteer's basements & no business plan to fund bandwidth... it really should *not* be doing pics/video
This is an edited post. Twitter did a better job of making it prominent that a post is edited.

But if I were a scam or a bot, I could get priority ranking for $8. Scams and bots are people or orgs that are spending $$$ money on software developers & machines. This is a cheap cost of doing criminal business, not a barrier. https://x.com/CaseyNewton/status/1588967223527616512
Seriously, how do I find any accounts to follow on #cohost? I can't even find the global feed (akin to the twitter firehose)
#running - Hey all my runners out there, this is the funniest thing on youtube if you do any running
"Serious Runner"

META: no email for replies/mentions here?
The #cohost box prominently asks if each tweet is "adult". Please, they are all my children, they just think they're adults.
Do you comment on blogs?
When blogs were big, it wasn't uncommon for a small blog to get comments on old & new posts. My various blogs get about 0 comments per year now. (good I guess? for a while it was nonstop spam comments)

Another simulate twitter with github experiment. Optimized for messages in commit comment & driven mostly by git CLI https://x.com/bcrypt/status/1588416861552582657
The social media moderating rules for the Lawry's Seasoned Salt site are strict. It least it isn't any anything goes hell site. https://x.com/app_user17/status/1587920809518977026

Should I cross post my twitter stuff to here?
Pleroma servers... should I create a gated mini social network site? Something with the entry costs of a private discord, but the look & feel of twitter. Reminds me of the days of self hosted blogs.

Baby shoes, worn once, kicked off at mile 5 of 10k race, the extra grams were slowing him down, victory was straight ahead, the crowds were roaring, the competition back in no man's land. Never retrieved.

My holiday coding project ideas:
- a running schedule generator
- companion app to use GitHub as if it were twitter (it has some perfect feature overlap, some things that could be done with some minor coding)
- just catching up on last years holiday coding project
META: seems like- only on twitter- all the videos now stutter. Anyone else notice that?
If you want to kickstart your experience on Mastodon, you'll need to grind-- follow 500-1000 accounts. Or do what you did on twitter and wait 10 years to slowly accumulate a critical mass of following/followers before it suddenly becomes really useful.
The # of accounts to follow on twitter to kick off a new account is like 1000. But if Mastodon user base is even less active than Twitter, you'll need to follow a factor of that.

If someone says you're mumbling inaudibly in your mic & you change nothing, assume no one will ever hear you again and they are too polite/frustrated to keep saying it over and over and over.

Prediction: This site is going to be failwhaling in a week & will make http://mastodon.social look fast & reliable (not a complement of http://mastodon.social)

That's what I'm talking about. Let's use source control to publish books, blogs, microblogs https://x.com/Ax_Sharma/status/1587805968473145345
Tbh, if there were 3 30 second videos on every tweet, I'd pay to suppress the ads. Yes, I'm subtweeting Youtube.
You can't always make the premium version pleasant enough, but it is easy to make the free version unpleasant.
META: sorry about metacontent.
My plan is to pivot from twitter & geographically centric following (DC area techies) to Youtube centric, following people who contribute to Pypi.
The cost of following people in ecosystems outside of twitter is so much higher (you want me to read a long blog post & comment and probably be ignored? Who has time for that)
Groundkeeping? I'd like to complain about the trees, they malfunctioned and dropped almost all the leaves. It is untidy. Please put them back on the tree where they belong.
