While waiting for a fix, the work around is to run in-place while the machine is off. https://x.com/USCPSC/status/1585625610394767360
Now proud owner of great big treadmill. Let the snow begin.
We bought it in part because I would not like the newspaper article titled "Ironically, man murdered by car while running across Fairfax County pedestrian crossing after taking up running to extend lifespan."
♡ 0 ↻ 01st world problems
- blue tooth headphones won't connect to treadmill
- youtube app in built in chromepad can't login/can't connect to auth servers
- "toast saying 'speed 5/12'" keeps covering the subtitles of the Korean TV show I'm watching♡ 1 ↻ 0Something wrong with the treadmill. When I'm watching Netflix, it keeps moving me away from the screen and I have to walk fast or even run to keep the screen at the right distance. My couch never did this.

> [WinError 10061] No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it
No machine, I reject you!
This is what you call
- Too good to fact check
- Entertainment at the expense of the (probably) mentally ill
- Something for people to project their opinions on

Thinking about self-hosted twitter clones- isn't part of being a media company mean having the ability to stand up to lawsuits? So if I said on my blog, "Elon Musk is an arrogant man child," a $0.60 stamp, his lawyer could threaten me off the internet.
Would you take down content because of letter threatening legal action
♡ 0 ↻ 0I had to google what a stamp costs. I can't remember the last time I used something other than a forever stamp.

Is there a lower bound on code quality where it is irresponsible to allow it to be used at the office?
12 years later, it still does. https://x.com/mistersql/status/12601178509
Season PR 10k and 5k . Too tired to say something witty.

How to run this fast:
- run at pace of one of other runners
- run 6 miles a day in weeks leading up to race
- wear Nike super shoes (not sure what % this helps)
- listen to kpop♡ 0 ↻ 0
Trying to use github as a twitter replacement is wonderfully alien. Reminds me of my original encounter with Twitter.

https://github.com/matthewdeanmartin/thinks/blob/main/thinks.md♡ 0 ↻ 0Oh, trouble in paradise. If I put all my tweets on Github, it will be really difficult to later go back and delete all my problematic tweets about pineapple pizza, creating problems for future employment, legal liability and so on. Twitter can't edit. Github can't delete.

My audience probably already knows this, but with the recent sms spam wave, I've started blocking & reporting as spam all the "hi" messages I get from new numbers. I imagine that will happen to all channels. https://x.com/elight/status/1583347208165806081

If venture capitalists aren't funding a twitter replacement, they're passing on a once in a generation chance to replace twitter. I give it 50/50 odds that there is a digg-to-reddit type exodus of the top 1% of tweeters, which would be enough to kneecap this place.
Twitters competitors:
Can follow anyone, everyone is there: Linked In
Can write about anything: Blogger
Can get an audience for your jokes: <crickets*>
Can read about your special interest: Reddit
Can follow every one you're related to by blood: Facebook, 23andme (ha!)
* crickets love my jokes.

META: if the lights are turned off at Twitter, but they keep the servers running... yeah, that sounds dodgy, maybe 2 or 3 years before it goes down hard?

Good thing about monomania:
- You can really get a lot of stuff done.
Bad things:
- Very slow to turn this attentional oil tanker around.
- Dazed & useless while transitioning to next obsession https://x.com/mistersql/status/1582784106894864384/photo/1
I got 3 "perceived exertions"
- Run without wanting to stop - HR 120-165
- Running but want to stop - HR 165 - 175
- Breathing really hard and really want to stop or slow down - HR 175-188
I've never seen HR over 188.
I just finished a lunch time run where the charts said I did a "Threshold run" with average HR of 163. I felt fine though & felt like I was running slow.
This machine we live in is weird.♡ 0 ↻ 0Anyhow, my next project is to chart out my pace to HR, since pro athletes often can run remarkable paces at a remarkably low HR. I'm running faster & faster, but at the same 165HR (I think, still gotta build out the spreadsheet to check)

Why not sue humans that use their own brain to create broadly similar code after reading it on Github- it is the same sort of infringement. https://x.com/anildash/status/1582161854688014336
Your password with an upper case, symbol and digit can be cracked in 1 millisecond, or 48 minutes if your password is actually novel. Do attackers need to crack all your customers passwords or just one? This enabled cracking systems at at scale.

Fox News and their social media challenges, get this, social conservatives are trying to eat $28 of Taco Bell food in one sitting & film it for tik tok. How many social conservatives are going to end up in the hospital over this? They'll burst, man.

My 2c on the metaverse
- You're not going to be able to use it unless you've been using it since age 8
- Like two thumb typing, you'll need to learn a skill on the scale of learning to type
- They should focus entirely on uses cases for kids, not office workers
Everyone forgot how hard it was for the over 50 crowd to adopt to PCs and websites. Adopting VR is going to be hard for anyone over 8. Even my own kids can deal with rotating 3d images that give me motion sickness, and that's just iPads.
