Ending Dailylight Savings time changes forever would save lives. The time switches kill a measurable number of people. (DST also interacts with heating/cooling bills, but it seems like a weak policy for that)

Tip: don't get to 90% unit test coverage by testing just the "unhappy path" - yeah, code should throw when called with bad params & that will create coverage, but you still need a corresponding happy path test.
If a test suite has only unhappy path tests (and assertion that the code under test throws), it doesn't demonstrate that the code under test has any parameters where it doesn't throw.

This is unfair to ed, edlin and `COPY CON`, which all should be between 7 & 8. https://x.com/HollyGraceful/status/1502931429872881671
It's time we went beyond this and added all the fruits to pizza--cherries, mango, strawberries. https://x.com/ShawnAxsom/status/1503199634776367104
This parallels the conservatives in the US calling pretty much anything they don't like "socialism" from centrist conservatives to centrist liberals, to liberals-- for a fascist it's all "socialism"- I mean, fascists just aren't idea people. https://x.com/kamilkazani/status/1503084802437795845
Two websites I cut back on using because I don't understand their paywalls: Quora, Medium. They're like sometimes free, sometimes paid-only.
Effective micromanagement takes
-time
-knowledge of how work is done
w/o those, attempting micromanagement creates sham-micromanagement, where subordinates are doing their own thing, but assuaging the supervisors' psychological need to feel "in control"
Daylight savings spacetime, move one hour forward and six feet to the left.
Turning Red is a good movie about kids & parenting, I recommend.

Best overnight Amtrak ride from DC?
We did Boston (no sleeper cars), Atlanta (sleeper car, lousy station in Atlanta), haven't done Chicago yet.

What twitter clients currently exist that let you defeat the upcoming forced "algorithmic feed"? the one that injects inflammatory rage tweets from strangers. People are reporting you can't get "latest tweets" anymore on some clients
If there was war in China, US or Europe & if there were the same number of refugees as UA- that would be tens of millions of people packing up to get out of the way.
Why was the philosopher fired from his job as a software developer?
His proof of concept demo was a proof that concepts don't exist.

The experience of Github Copilot is like when IntelliSense was first invented. Pretty soon going without it will be quaint, like coding with paper punch cards and hand punching each hole with an awl.
McDonald's, Pepsi and Pizza Hut are international companies with loyalty to no one, they'd sell us to North Korea if they could make a buck. The US should sanction them the same as any other rogue country. Forget boycotts, they won't notice.
Oh look at that, they do respond to situations: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/03/08/russia-company-boycott-yale-list/

This is like the first open source war- the military intel is uploaded to youtube in real-time for the whole world to see. If us amateurs know where things are generally, the CIA, etc, knows where things are to the meter.
I can't show via facial expressions on zoom, camera off/mute "I think that idea is horrible, but I don't have the social standing to say so out loud"
I'm trying out Github Copilot and our usual starter interview coding questions, it just lets you tab-complete them as soon you type the function title or comment. I guess it is obvious if they're screen sharing the screen with Copilot, if they use a 2nd screen...
it would be harder to tell if someone is just tab completing with Copilot.

Office perks, like a windowless room w/ rows of beige cubicles in a loud office with so many people you get sleepy from the carbon dioxide in the air. Mgmt for federal buildings never had any control over that. https://twitter.com/jessicareeder/status/1500856462242897921

Hope y'all enjoyed the last two days of spring, summer starts now, it will be 82 now & the forecast is for <82, but they must be thinking historical norms and all.
What if they create a traffic jam and no one notices. In DC, you can't really create a traffic jam as much as you just come to participate in the ones already going on. https://x.com/washingtonpost/status/1500485266817044487

Buying a house for a million, billion, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion dollars when you can rent it for a % of your salary is throwing away money. People saying renting is throwing away money is only contingently true.
How we planning to survive the first year or two after nuclear winter?
Most youtube videos on nuclear war stop at how to survive a single city being bombed, the collapse of agriculture for the following years is a footnote.

google chat is back in gmail again! Now I can see all my convos with people last time it was integrated with gmail back in 2013-2015. Why they keep separating it I'll never know, it was the best way to convert a slow email chain into a fast chat.

Easy, just move your commits down this pipeline
-pop shelf
-stage
-commit to local branch
-push to remote branch
-MR origin/main branch (fork)
-"original" (where you forked from)
That's just 6 layers of concepts to move thru
This has always been true. When I was in Russia in the 90s, I found it interesting that just about no one talked about politics, unless they were in a good mood, feeling pro-Russia & pro-government. Complaining was indirect like complaining about paychecks arriving months late. https://twitter.com/acdha/status/1499834095135776768
IDEA: 0ms authentication sessions. As soon as the user turns on his computer, start making auth re-validation requests to the single sign server every 0ms. They might have logged out in another app or been fired in the last ms, so keep validating that token every 0ms.
Is this based on a true story? Yes.
