So if someone hits your car & their insurance is supposed to pay, in @allstate's case, the adjuster will just ignore your calls & claim the "can't get ahold of the policy holder"-- why wouldn't all claims go like that? Everyone would be able to avoid claims they're liable for

If Republicans essentially outlaw the other party, wouldn't people just switch parties & vote for the least conservative Republican in primaries? Isn't that essentially what Greens, etc already do?
Could this meeting have been an email? No, because no one is reading email either (at least not normally beyond the first paragraph)
IDEA: keep a list of people who don't talk at meetings, think about why they're at the meeting or what is wrong with the format. (but not broadcast, a broadcast is 1 person talking to many, whilst imagining that they are paying closer attention to the email they'd also ignore)
My pydoc question on stackoverflow... I think I know the answer, pydoc is just about useless for HTML doc generation

so far, pydoc & pdoc3 are being more helpful for telling me which modules execute code as side effects on import & me thinking if I really want side effects on import. (more helpful than as documentation)

The Something Awful forum charges $10 to activate your account- matchup up with my opinion that social media sites work best when there is an entry cost of some sort. Twitter's entry cost is the "follow 5000 accounts" grind.

I think the 3 second overhead in this lambda call is parameter store calls happening on each invocation. The code is converted from uswgi code that called setup 1x, now that setup is called on each invocation. If cobol is such a large installed codebase yet there are only 12 job ads for cobol on SO Careers, (cf 1200 for python) then it implies that there is (virtually) no maintenance dev & no new dev work... it's running with the lights out.

Drifts:
-Manual. Someone change something via AWS web console.
-Sabotage. Terraform plan is so huge you don't realize it is changing something you don't want to be changed
-Churn. Terraform keeps making a fake change to a resource

I just wanna do low latency async.

Web API -> sync response = 300ms
Web API -> SQS -> Lambda -> Polling for result == 3.3 seconds
---
And 18 second cold starts!
Bingo, I found the problem. Default memory for a lambda is 128MB, which means it allocated minimal CPU and is dog slow. I allocated 1GB of memory & (7x more CPU) and now the overhead is 0.02 seconds.

D's need to
- embrace populists
- not take a side in culture wars
- brand R's as only being concerned about culture war. There aren't enough progressives to win without populists.
If we deal with race, gender, ethnicity as *economic issues*, we win populists (many who'd we call racist chauvinists). If we deal with them as culture, I need to point at issues like vegetarianism & gun control- two issues that there will be no progress on because
♡ 0 ↻ 0some problems don't have a political solution yet, i.e. a solution that can find a coalition of 51% who can work out a compromise. Culture wars have in part replaced religion, i.e. it is unethical to venerate statues of traitors, unless that traitor is a demigod
♡ 0 ↻ 0(the parallels with ancient cultures that deified generals & kings, wow!) Anyhow, I think even progressives know that running a campaign on changing people's religion, promoting vegetarianism is going to lose, so those battles should be fought outside of politics.

Why is AWS's REDIS offering called Elastic Ache?
one pip knows about a private repo, it appears to always check it when installing any package, including ones not expected to be in a private repo. So if you're off VPN, pipenv quietly times out retrying a repo it can't reach & takes a million years.
`pipenv install --dev --skip-lock --verbose`
will tell you what package it is hung up on, but it won't tell you that it is trying to reach a private repo whilst off VPN.
To find out that, you have to run `pip install {some package}`♡ 0 ↻ 0

How are we moving to async?
This is where JS and Microsoft have an advantage over python. JS just doesn't give you a sync option to start with. MS can mandate, all teams use async & voila, it happens. Python has to have 1000 individual devs feel like moving to async & each chooses their own quirky path.
♡ 0 ↻ 0Python 4 should be the "async-only" version
