So Nevada will be counting mail-in ballots up to 7 days after the election!
5:35PM Summary
- Almost decided
- If Nevada & Arizona go blue & it is over, the other won't matter
- I am unlikely to be president, I should have asked more people to vote for me. https://x.com/mistersql/status/1323957023202070529
Michigan! Michigan?! Can you hear me? https://x.com/patdennis/status/1324093520320307202
If the write-ins haven't been counted, we should all be working on our acceptance speeches. Don't rule anything about until everything has been counted.
And don't stress! Stay calm. I will be a fair & just ruler.
Election betting odds say there is a 0.6% chance someone other than Trump or Biden will win, I'm willing to take the other side of that bet. (i.e. I bet Trump or Biden will win)
Telling a joke in a meeting now is always met with stony silence.
My definition of populism is: "Right-wing populism is when you think you aren't getting your share because non-whites took it. Left-wing populism is when you think you aren't getting your share because billionaires took it." Populism stylistically is also about simple messages. https://x.com/gabesalkin/status/1323978226969026565
Electionbettingodds is moving towards Biden, now at 77%.
Doesn't look like Ds get the Senate? Looks like Palpatine was re-elected. At least he had to pay attention to a competitor. Uncontested races are awful.
There is another Mandalorian episode Friday, so we have that to look forward to.
7am Summary
- Undecided
- Votes remaining to count still could shift results
- Votes remaining are overwhelmingly blue
- Previous swing stages might not be swing states this year (remember when VA was a swing state?), i.e. PA/FL might not matter if west shift blue like CO did
Latino/Hispanic vote shifted towards Trump & this seems to have surprised people. I read articles on polling/surveying of who is vegan/vegetarian. The Hispanics often answer "wrong" because they didn't understand the question. Polls are trash if there isn't a common language.
This is why va is blue yet https://twitter.com/enviroem/status/1323823004896415746
Do Distributed Transaction Coordinators work? Ever since working with MS-DTC (always broken) I've just assumed that the tech is like self-driving car & robotic surgery- not really here.
Copyrights on the code that runs voting machines may make it hard to litigate voting counts

I'm calling Texas as blue.
I want the 50,000 retweets when this turns true.
46/52. Just a bit more & it will flip.
If create a database of users you should just make first-name-last-name a primary key, it is impossible to convince anyone that two people can have the same first & last name & they don't know what to do about it.
Will urging your constituents to put off voting until the last moment go down in history as the greatest tactical maneuver ever? I mean, in high school, this always worked for exams, book reports, everything.
The #1 thing that moved election betting odds was the 1st debate (Sept 29). Gamblers took that as new & surprising information. So I guess gamblers are ill-informed. The 36/64 split is pretty close to 50/50 what you'd bet on 0 info.

"And should we win the day, the November 3rd will no longer be known as a Republican working day, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive!"
It sure isn't a Holiday in most jurisdictions.
IDEA: zoom/skype/etc feature that abruptly ends meeting for everyone at the end of the hour.
It's a computer in a keyboard! So ahead of its time. https://x.com/mistersql/status/1323334016213393408/photo/1
Same model number... ooo just noticed that.
Was that on purpose?

I'm wondering why I'm so late to doing mocking in unit tests. Theories:
1. In compiled languages it (is?) was really, really hard. The language fights against using a mock when the code clearly states only a particular class is acceptable.
2. Because mocking is highjacking normal calls, it is going to be somewhat different for each runtime (what you learned about intercepting calls in language 1 probably doesn't apply to language 2)
3. The pit of failure for mocking is much greater (e.g. writing tests that only verify that the mock behaves as expected and ignore the code under test)
I'm learning mocking finally. Next up ambition, distraction, uglification and derision.

(no lib for derision)
(no lib for distraction)
I noticed! The sign language in the episode looked right! https://twitter.com/helenalovier/status/1322333869601939458
Hilton DoubleTree in Ocean City is crazy cheap this upcoming Dec & Nov- 10K to 15K points.
Who matters
I was driving RT 404 in Delaware... I hope they find the road soon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delaware_Route_404
This is the day. Happy Mandalorian streaming day!
The week before my trip: MD is fine, wrt to Covid.
Now: 95% of the country sees skyrocketing covid, ICUs across the country running out of space.
This stuff changes fast.
On our vacation
- we got carryout only from restaurants that were closed to dine in.
- we're traveling in the off-peak season
- haven't been in a single crowded room since we got here
- wife rode an elevator with an unmasked clown for 2 floors.
I got a perfect view of this from my hotel window! https://x.com/mark_tarello/status/1321844173130076165
Epic ζ-storm views from the hotel window.
What should I learn next
Maybe election betting odds should be given an error range about as big as the odds people are giving incredibly unlikely outcomes, like DC or PR statehood before 2022. (15%/20%)
The world's book databases suck at finding a book by plot. I just want to find the book where the person and the person did the thing with the thing and everything went wrong and everyone dies in the end.
Taiwan absolutely crushed Covid in part due to #CivicTech. So many cool apps developed & deployed. Nightclubs stayed open because of an anonymous contact tracing app.

Beach report from Ocean City, some tar from an oil spill from an unknown source that has also been causing probs on beaches in Delaware. Got some on my foot, so 1st foot reporting
Saw dolphins off the shore at Ocean City. No kaiju. Yet. Still a few months left in 2020
This is the whey. https://x.com/mistersql/status/1321252897749934080/photo/1
You ALL in my distant outer circle are welcome to this non-private island (Ocean City) which I have cleverly visited when it is cold & rainy so y'all will voluntarily decide not to. We're eating carry-out Chinese & pretending we're in Taiwan where things are normal all the time.
How are people doing "all you can eat" carryout? Do you drive back for 2nds and 3rds?
I'm in Ocean City & saw a restaurant with people in it. I'm like, nope.
