I call almost 0 meetings, spend 1/2 my week in zoom meetings. I think because they are so AWFUL in terms of providing feedback to anyone that mgmt just keeps cranking up the number of meetings.

You all like work from home? This all-cameras-off always-on-mute is going to make sure that we are all forced to go back to the office 5 days a week. The WFH experiment is going to end because we are embarrassed to show our faces.
Ferris Bueller saw the future of Zoom decades in advance:
This is work from home

For a 3br TH or SFH, walk to metro
Oct 2market price is $475K-$525K (actually to $♾️)
Market rent is $2200-$2600
Silverline corridor, but numbers don't change much for other metro lines.

This was really bad UX. These alerts should not wake people up. It is not actionable at 4:30AM. & google-android won't fix it until this happens a few times to some Product Manager in California. https://twitter.com/rheckart/status/1317083221989986305
Twitters back. It was awful. No jokes, no doom. All I could do was work.
Usenet is back! You can finally read everything you missed the first time around. First thing, time to see if I can assemble all the posts necessary to download a pirated copy of Lotus 1-2-3

Anyone know if the census is going to report a huge drop in population? (from not bothering to count)
Census says they're 99.9% complete. Next I gotta look & see if anyone has independently confirmed this

Yes, but this was usually an organizational trait rather than a trait of specific people. The problem isn't that decisions take into account possible bad outcomes, the problem is making decisions based on a lack of info. A lack of info that makes you fearful doesn't mean squat https://x.com/gnfisher/status/1316319470911213568

Hot take: Estonia's E-residency is http://login.gov with a better story.
I'm already an e-resident of the Amazon, so this would be natural next step.

Surprise! The 30-foot screen on the stage is the new iPhone. The ladder to reach the upper parts costs $1500 extra.

Wonder if it would be a good interview question to find all the prime days between jan 1 & dec 31

re: pi contains everything
For all substrings of pi, can you find another duplicate substring of pi?
Have you ever wondered if you are part dog?
There is a way to answer that.

The Altair 8800 could display only 1 or 2 character wide (a handful of blinkin lights). So why are we using the 1928 standard of 80 characters? We could support so many more devices formatting to 1 char wide or two if we want to strain our eyes. https://x.com/SAGExSDX/status/1315769102812749825

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day. I was going to say something about how crazy the discourse on people who are mixed Indian, but the dialog is pretty nasty. Pretty much everyone calling everyone racist with racist reasoning.
Speaking of being surprised to find a left-wing rationale for racism, I used to think populism was the domain of the left-wing-- "We all deserve things, but the rich have stolen it from us".
♡ 0 ↻ 0Right-wing populism is the same, but "We deserve things, but women, immigrants, minorities have stolen it from us"

Whut... Strava used to be a freemium app, and today it says "matt you're a subscriber & we're going to charge you via google play store $60 starting nov" So I had to explicitly cancel.
Never seen this business model before.
I run indoors now, treadmill mode on my fitbit. Strava doesn't even count that (unless I do a manual entry, in which case I might as well use google sheets)

So I personally can't buy a house probably until next May. Thanks pro-tentant laws & covid & so on. Which might be okay. The RE market in DC is out of whack:
1) Building froze. Normally some % of supply is new houses.
2) Buying frenzy from folk who couldn't shop in March
3) Interest rates fell & prices naturally go up
4) Employment for 1/2 of society way down, but for everyone else no change. Prices responding to the healthy 1/2
5) Folk like me are structurally stuck in place (can't sell rentals, no one moving for jobs, etc)♡ 0 ↻ 06) People per housing unit probably going down
7) Case-Shiller almost to 2015/2016 peak which means, rent, don't buy, or wait.♡ 0 ↻ 08) Oh, it takes months, if not 12-18 months for houses to show on the market due to financial distress either unemployed owners or unemployed tenants & landlords who can get with the loss of rent. So those people will sell, but not all right now, but over the next year or more.

This is a new feature. Every time you do a search for an "affordable" house within walking distance of a metro stop, Redfin laughs & laughs & laughs and then shows 0 results.

A SPAC is a company formed to buy stuff. That is it, that is whole motivation. It is some sort of way to dodge burdensome IPO requirements. The shell company goes public, then buys the company that would otherwise have to go through an IPO.
