What are y'all using for ssh tunnel management? (when you find yourself spending too much time poping open consoles to create a tunnel to many remote resources)
Example of what I'm talking about

What is my most controversial opinion?
This question is soliciting a flame war and an excuse to get angry at someone.
Ok, fight me now.
Some developer at Syncrony bank mailed out a zillion emails that probably were intended for a test environment.
Someone thought they could prevent errors
- by will power
- by chain of command (bosses will stop the mistakes)
- by denial (mistakes? us?)
https://www.businessinsider.com/email-citing-synchrony-amazon-sparks-fraud-concerns-2019-11
Mistakes are stopped by:
- believing mistakes WILL happen. Non stop. Multiples in a row.
- Automate the guards, e.g. if PROD then don't send mail
- Do multiple AUTOMATED checks for what environment you are in.
- Unit tests should check the environment
- Make devs use mocks/fakes♡ 1 ↻ 0Ever take big org computer based training? They are Huge believers in "preventing mistakes by chain of command", ie.
"Are you about to make a mistake in the area of law XYZ? Go to your supervisor so they can stop it."
That is not how mistakes happen.♡ 1 ↻ 0
Congress forgets how to pass a law, remembers that there is a Library of Congress, but forgets where it is. I could help them with that!

It is a little too easy to iterate over chars of a string.

There we go, a Pool, a map, 100% cpu, it warms my heart and lap.
And I notice there is no noise from the fan. I guess the bios wasn't kidding when it said it couldn't find the fan on boot. https://x.com/mistersql/status/1198310543301468162
Ah python pegging my core at 1/cpu_count %. Time to crack open the multiprocessing module again.
Ah, why just write ASCII or ISO 8859-1 bytes when you can also mix in some UTF-8 and Windows-1252. And Korean.
Unpredictable encodings is the spice of data files.
It's a Mandopop weekend

No, that’s a mandarin. A Mandalorian is a form of pop music sung in contemporary Chinese (incidentally, also called Mandarin). https://x.com/CleverGoose/status/1196980817408471040
My older son went to Northeastern U, which has a mandatory co-op program, i.e. 5 year program where you work at a related company for 1 year. 50% resume working for the same co-op after graduating.

Only 27% of college grads use their degree in a job that calls for that specific degree. I can use my econ degree to say, that is a colossal inefficiency.

This "parameterized nose test" library is no joy. One function iterates over n test cases, but if you want to step a debugger through case #475, the debugger steps through 1-474.
Anything better than writing 475 distinct functions?
example: https://gist.github.com/matthewdeanmartin/53f1ff13e8405f55752a58688014059c#file-test_too_much_stepping-py
HR: How fast can you type?
Applicant: I can annotate 450 python functions a minute
HR: You're hired.
Give this to WMATA IT so they can secretly build a bigger metro system. Look at that purple line that goes all around DC. https://x.com/sharonodea/status/1158631585643728897
I'm a single issue voter and that issue is function hoisting in #python. I should be able to call functions at the top of a code file before defining them.
A coalition with the beer party and the pizza party should take us over the top.
Tesla Cyber truck-my uninformed opinion
This is actually a concept car & will never see mass production. Big car companies used to do sci-fi cars all the time
The target market is urban folk who might buy a charger, camero, or mustang but they read sci-fi & don't have a mullet
7z logging like the it's doing affirmations during a panic attack
"Files read from disk: 1

Files read from disk: 1

Everything is Ok"
Here is a first- compressing & decompressing 25GB of data is crushing my poor computer. All the memory pressure is coming from zipping, chrome and slack. THREE jetbrains IDEs are running and not using much memory, comparatively.
7z is just so much better than all the compression options (compression ratio, time to compress/decompress) and it is true for the app and the 7z format itself.
Oh this is big- python support, time to look at Systems Manager again. https://x.com/awscloud/status/1197549756702171137
Flexible Spending accounts are wage theft and should be illegal.
The owners of Flexible Spending companies ought to be jailed for this system, laws protecting business owners from jail time for theft while running a corporation should be revisited.

P=NP is solved by N=1, all values of P and P=0 for all values of N.
What the big deal, man.
Is there any way to secure a *public* api so that it is only accessible if you got the JS from your website & you're using a browser?
(I think the answer is *no*, you can only make it inconvenient. Am I wrong?)

The market for developer tooling is completely broken
dev can use it? can't get employer/client to pay for it
employer has paid for it? can't get devs to use it
Every1 falls back on free tooling, so the whole ecosystem depends on chumps & failed business

What's worse, explaining a joke, or doing do diligence to see if a joke was made and then citing all previous art.
Why can't Batman write lisp? He lost his parens.

English is hard. Zero milligrams sometimes means, "I'm so surprised!"
IDEA: when you run pip or pipenv, with more than a few packages, it should automagically pop open the next video on your youtube watch list.
When you run npm install, it should automatically order a larger hard drive from amazon.
One GDPR feature that people running government websites might want to just implement is "forget about me/right to be forgotten" If someone wants their profile info deleted from the Wyoming Tourist Bureau's website, why not just make that automatically possible?
Are US federal (or any non-EU gov't) government websites (that save profile info) governed by GDPR?
This blog post thinks maybe. https://foreignpolicyblogs.com/2018/11/21/possible-penalties-if-nation-states-ignore-the-eus-gdpr/
onelinerizer, i.e. how to convert any py code into a single line of code.
I would never use this to increase unit test coverage. Never.
