I can't sympathize with Assange. When writing internal applications, he is the sort of adversary you are defending the system against. Authentication, authorization, encryption, happen so that wikileaks can't leak. Radical transparency would mean basic things like protecting ...
database credentials would fail and any disgruntled and hostile foreigner could not only see government data, but destroy it. No space here to discuss whistle-blower laws, and FOIA but it seems like data security can be compatible with that.
♡ 0 ↻ 1I'd imagine this isn't controversial among DC techies, but shoot, in the comments about Assange, so many people think his brand of hacktivism is good.

I wonder if this open data & chart had any impact on getting Chrome onto federal desktops. https://x.com/Erie/status/1116428219023069185
So you discovered Docker. Now you have Docker+1 problem & you need something to run containers, like docker-compose. Now you have docker compose+1 problem, you need load balancers, autoscalers, so now you need Kubernetes. You have kubernetes+1 problem, no UI-you need OpenShift...
I just want an browser extension that upon loading a new page
blocks ads
clicks accept cookies
rejects "notifications"
checks for autoplay video, cross checks Linked in to find the developer and drone drops flaming bags of dog 💩on their house.
Is that too much to ask for?
Singularly shitty version https://x.com/mistersql/status/1115683881141907457/photo/1
Interview question: How do you eat sour bread without using your right lateral incisor?
Doesn't say squat about qualifications, but it would answer a question I have.
Now for philosophy, how is this question obviously irrelevant, but the question about "what is your work quality" is considered on topic.
♡ 1 ↻ 0damn- meant to type "worst quality", now this is incoherent. Sigh. My worst quality is I work too hard and I don't delete and retweet when I tweet a typo.

"If you are the leader, press * now" What kind of political system is that?
Condo board meetings seem to come in two flavors:
- boring
- emotionally exhausting
I see why parliaments are run by experts who adhere to parliamentary procedure and not just random folk who want to show up for verbal fight club.

Now reading up on what happens when orgs "ban" USB media. Does the OS know to ban mounting drives, but still allow USB mice and keyboards. IBM got in the news for this policy, AFAIK this is DoD policy.

Solves a real problem - lots of fonts are DRM managed & require a license. So in a big multi-team project, the fonts are broken on most of the UAT environments & moving the fonts to a static CDN like the rest of the statics would be a ToS vio. And no one wants to deal with that https://x.com/internetrebecca/status/1115306754223607808

Interesting, de-annonymizing government data. This could be an excuse for going back to non-transparent, secret agency data. https://x.com/john_abowd/status/1114942180278272000
What org got "presence announcing" software right? I mean, something that tells you on a given day where someone is on business travel, at the office, out sick or on leave, on campus or telework?
One org's organic solution is an ad-hoc DSL in the Lync status line.
Google Map's Location sharing is what people want, but it is too accurate. People want a solution of medium accuracy, but not as bad as Outlook (no clues as to location, presence is "lync is on") or Lync (must be manually updated & synced with Outlook)

RSA Tokens & the like, you own that you don't know what they go with anymore
I'm googling why my Alexa is only responding with a variety of "Meows".
me: Why are you meowing?
A: Meow
etc.
Not a failure modality I expected.
ADVICE: If you're writing a government document, debullshitify it before you hand it in. The bullshit doesn't make you sound professional (with "we're going to manage, monitor, optimize, enhance... bs, bs, bs") it makes it sound like you're trying to hide something.
Bullshit template questions? Try to change the topic to a non-bullshit topic.
Don't know the answer? Write about how that answer could be found instead of bullshitting through.
Incoherent template question? Project some coherence onto the question, pretend you misread it.♡ 2 ↻ 0
Listening to people on youtube at 0.5 speed. It is like they are very, very sleepy.
CDC says this is a problem for young kids more than the adults (who presumably were properly vaccinated) "CDC considers people who received two doses of measles vaccine as children ... protected for life, and they do not ever need a booster dose."

There need to be more products to deal with missing admin rights
powershell is crippled
jdk work is crippled
VMs are crippled
They still work, so remote malicious users can still execute code, but legitimate work is slowed to a halt.
powershell - you can still do all powershell work, but executing a .ps1 file is not allowed
jdk - only 32 bit portable easily available, usually only jre installed by default
VMs - Qemu runs raspi & dsl linux, but anything bigger is too slow (this is bios related too)♡ 1 ↻ 0

Alright, tweeting from my new Lenovo!
Can't be bothered by state sponsored spyware (alleged?) if you're posting everything you do to twitter anyhow. China, are you listening? Taiwan is an independent country.

Easy, in all of these IDisposable methods (in SqlCommand and DataSet) that previously did nothing, MS will implement a bitcoin miner. The funds will be used to compensate everyone that has to write unnecessary using{} blocks. https://x.com/vcsjones/status/1113853919023726592
META: another use for lists - a place to put folk you'd like to follow, but because they are so full of anger, rage, hatred, feelings of not getting the respect they think they deserve...I'll let that into my mind on my own schedule thank you.
NSA's decompiler, also known as source control of last resort. Come on, tell me you haven't at least once decompiled a binary because some dip $#!+ on the team wasn't interested in source control. https://x.com/bindshell_/status/1113794407415853059
Better password policy- ALL passwords must be 15,000 characters long. There must be 1 character from each 1000 range of the unicode standard from 0 to 100,000. This would force people to use password managers. It would keep the people who can only think about entropy happy.
A common theme in the study of how things evolve, in human organizations, is that things evolve out of something that already existed. Password databases don't exist in the current worldview. To get there, we need an entropy rule that forces folk to use password databases.

If you were to hack passwords would you
a) exploit leaked password lists
b) exploit the possibility of low entropy passwords
Exploit leaked password lists! Every time. Something like 2/3(?) of human chosen passwords are on a leaked list.

IDEA: Food Bar, where you saddle up to the bar and order a sandwich, a side, and a drink and you get 3 glasses all run through the blender.
Laptop now cavorting in Louisville, KY. Probably for the long list of Chinese restaurants downtown. If it drives through the night, it could make it here in 10 hours.
My laptop is now on tour in Narita, Japan. It is going to have to take a train to Tokyo if it wants to see anything interesting and that is going to delay it a few days.
IDEA: Harden your system against changes by resetting the clock back to Aug 15, 1985 at lunch time every 10 seconds. No more expiring SSL certificates! No more expiring licenses! No tricky holiday math!
My new laptop is in Shangai, probably sight seeing.
