Rehabilitated this 2007 macbook- Linux Mint 19.1 worked. Had to add magic phrase to grub to fix boot slowness & now even the wifi works. Firefox installs.

Planning to upgrade this 2007 Mac osx to ubuntu & just come to peace with the fact that I will be tethered to a ethernet cable. (turns out these macs have broadcom wifi, which only has closed source proprietary drivers, so must be manually installed)

- All 3 major browsers fail to do SSL on most sites
- All 3 refuse to install latest

Trying to run linux
- broadcom wifi drivers not avail by default
- requires GPT , not MBR, so most ISOs fail to boot
- old trusties like DSL linux are gone
