Requiring authentication to use a photocopier has got to be the worst idea I've encountered. It creates a high first rung problem where you can't use a device without half a day and the input of 4 people.

So the problem is you have to guess the format of the windows user name that the printer wants before you can use it. If you guess wrong, you will have to deal with at least 3 people who don't know either.
