Blue sky is hoppin' man, go try it out
So is Mastodon but y'all already know about that if you've read my last 100 tweets

Elon's Government Efficiency initiative
It has been done 6 times before, Al Gore being the most recent. Unless we count Bannon who wanted to shut down all the agencies. And wow, look at how many he shut down. Negative one if you count Space Force

Well who else to give $ to
Independent Journalism
- SomeMoreNew
- NPR
- Others, probably the ones my wife watches
Local Politics
- DLCC (dems in state houses around the country)
- Dems in my state (VA dems & specific candidates)
- Other down ballot things as I find them
- Any populists that show up on the Federal level (Jon Tester for prez?)
Oh I hate tweets that try to steer the conversation, but please, suggest who else to give $ to. I don't know what it accomplishes to say, gee "Matt, those mostly liberal money-targets are to the right of *my* personal politics"

@ebooksyearn Well that doesn't narrow it down much.
Oleksandr's blog post on what's better. A lot of good points that are based on experience instead of published feature lists.
@ebooksyearn regularly since so many people that didn't make it to mastodon showed up from twitter or somewhere.
"Staff, never scan a QR code! Security risks!"

People used to have in person parties to exchange PGP public keys. I read about them. In the PGP manual.
Look a picture of one in 2008! You can see them writing down the public keys with pencil and paper.
And 4 times a year, you go to the key revocation party.
♡ 2 ↻ 0And the party specification does not mention food, nor music, nor decorations.

♡ 1 ↻ 0"AWS KMS strongly recommends verifying that the public key you receive came from the expected party before using it to derive a shared secret."
How can I expect a party that I haven't even been invited to?

I will admit that current twitter does have far more content for:
- The AI industry
- Sex Workers
I'll let you draw your own conclusions about all that.
It is now easier than ever to move off twitter and get the early 2022 experience

AFAIK, there isn't something similar for Mastodon (although they're used to be before the API changes cut off access from debirdify, etc)
If you're ever being chased by a drone, run, don't stop running and don't hide behind a tree. Please come back and comment if this turns out to be helpful.
Both R's and D's this round thought the economy was far worse than it really was. When surveyed, people thought the economy and their personal wealth was cratering because of rising grocery prices & they were not bothered by high car & house prices (!)
Hmm, maybe this is why in much of human history there have been price controls on food. Left, right, people will turn on the the government of any sort if it costs $6 for a $3 loaf of bread.
Roger is my uncle. Explains why nothing gets done, nothing works out.
The cliche is pretty harsh on almost very one's uncles.

Applying for health insurance in the US:
"Are you currently in jail? yes or no?"
"Ha! You will be after we catch you for filling in this 800 field form wrong. You don't deserve health insurance, you people are all just criminals trying to rip off the good people who pay taxes."
You qualify for a subsidy! Maybe, but we'll have to call your employer. We will also take your subsidy away when you file your income taxes because your previous employer didn't get back to us.
Also, if you calculated your subsidy wrong, now you're doing income tax fraud and health insurance fraud. So caching-caching, H & R Block tax service will have to do your taxes for you.

The #awskms pricing page I think is dishonest. It says the price of KMS encryption is just the price of the keys.
AWS sells compute and now that you are running extra compute on all read/write, you now have a new cost that scales with your I/O and that probably pays the salaries of all the staff that work on KMS
AWS Health (aka AWS One Medical) is the innovative new health thing.
- Autoscaling. Got too few kids? They'll deliver a new one. Too many kids? they'll pick them up.
- End of life concerns? Glacier will put you on ice until we can thaw you out, but boy will it cost you in retrieval fees.
- Failing brain? AWS Mind Upload will store your brain and provide you with more than enough process whatever is on your mind. No cross border replication without first getting a visa and Feds have to use us-gov-west-1 or us-gov-east, which gets the service in 5 years from now.

Are you illegal in your own country (the US)? Are the two main parties blowing up real estate, the job market and the pensions system and you will need to retire on what you can sell your house for?

- Panama
- Georgia
- Portugal
Will let you retire or work remote for some foreign company.
Why live in a banana republic when you can live in a republic with actual bananas.
@freedom_baird Counter point- This graph showed that in blue states incomes went up, times were good and people knew it, but in red states (particularly MI, WI, PA) time went from bad to worse and people there knew it. That the average overall for the nation was up, didn't sway MI, WI, PA voters & they voted to burn it all down.
IDEA: Java compiler that compiles to YAML instead of byte code and then a JRE that consumes YAML. Or a C compiler that compiles to YAML and then a CPU that runs YAML instead of binary executables!
Because YAML is used nonstop as DSL suitable for non-programmers this will allow non-programmers to write intermediate language directly, democratizing and simplifying coding in assembler(-like) languages.
Protip: To save money buy shoes that are popular in #marathon #running
- Ordinary shoes are trashed after about 300 miles (squashed foam, corners abraded off)
- Shoes are trashed long before they start causing you knee pain
- My Saucony Triumph are still chugging along at double/triple that
So marathon shoes, per mile are cheaper.
(But not super shoes, carbon plate and running & marshmallow foam is different)
Theory: New coalitions
New Right
- Billionaires, Christian Right & Business who don't care who is in their coalition
- People who don't own a house/can't afford rent. Apoliticial because they're trying to make this months rent, no time read a 250 page book about policy.
New Left
- old school educated republicans
-the educated liberals with good paying jobs
People who own a house and can afford rent, but as a group, don't want to do anything about housing....
The people with houses don't want to fix the housing problem because then the $2million or $500,000 house you just bought on a 30 year mortgage would be $200,000 and you'd have millions of people with a deeply negative net worth.
Even if the price of eggs were "fixed", housing decimates your disposable income.
Us people with houses told the people without houses, "Fuck You! We Got our house!"
And we're really surprised when they voted "Burn it all down, fuck you all!"
♡ 2 ↻ 1Anyhow, build houses, gentrify the neighborhoods, build anything! Make some radical laws that says you can't be evicted from your house if your mortgage is upside down, so people don't have an incentive to create artificial scarcity by never letting any houses be built. Guarantee people proper pensions so their house isn't the pension.

2016 - Let's stress test our institutions' checks and balances against malgovernance
2020 - Phew, well, we're still alive, most of us. Mostly the bad guys were not competent to out-wit the establishment & checks and balances.
2024 - You, know, we should really stress test institutions, can't be too sure about these things

Analysis:
49% of people are left leaning
49% of people are right leaning
2% of people have no internal compass but were upset about inflation and voted for whoever was in the other party
That 2% in the middle doesn't care about right wing or left wing politics, nor self interest, nor nothing. They were single issue voters & were unhappy about high prices.
If the left shifted more to the left, the apathetic middle would still be apathetic.
If the right shifted more to the right (where do they have left to go?) the apathetic middle would still be apathetic.

This is outrageous! It's unfair!
I'm calling the election. Matthew Martin wins with a landslide of write ins. His platform "I need a bigger house" resonated with everyone, who thought they were going to get a bigger house. In fact, Matthew Martin will be getting the 16 bed house.
I'm calling it for Harris.
- Polls are trash (<1% response), but journalists can't give up on them, 50/50 with true error bars is 0/100-100/0
- Betting market is is manipulated
- He is losing on fundamentals
- He is losing on campaign effectiveness
I'm not saying if they didn't keep polling, they wouldn't keep getting 50/50, I'm saying that after you take into account that the 99% are different from the 1% who answer polls, then the true range is 1/99 to 99/1 When you can't measure non-response factors, it's all stats trash
♡ 0 ↻ 0I was so wrong. Did not see him winning the popular vote. My preferred theory is that the apolitical people (non-ideologues) voted for change because of high house prices, high prices of goods, low wage growth, etc. (Other theories can be true too and not explain enough)
