What People think they eat: Chicken all day plus something
What doctors promote: Mediterranean Chicken all day
Cultural right wing: Chicken all day
Low-carb: Eat chicken all day, like you already do
Semivegetarians: Chicken all day, but tell people, "I hardly ever eat chicken"
What they actually eat: Chicken all day.

Come one people, if you do not live to code by any means possible to move users from Twitter to ANYWHERE, what meaning does our life have?
Account correlation tools like debirdify powered with largest exodus from twitter and look at us, we gave up!
We can correlate accounts, it's just API calls! And then people can leave twitter.
I made a #MastodonCollection for #Comics
Was able to add 8 out of 10 artists from my Comics list.
This is so trippy looking at bsky and mastodon in one feed. I'm like, "oh, that's gonna start a fight" and then I'm like, "nah, that's on bsky, that's in the Overton window there"
IDEA: revive #debirdify by taking peoples twitter archive, getting the friends list out of that, then doing API calls to bsky and mastodon until you find all the friends, or to wikidata which has a surprising about of social media correlation data.
I hate this... "show 1 new item"
This is a dark pattern. Ditto for the notifications lighting up. Ditto for loading infinite tweets on scroll-down.
elk is a free app with cyberbegging. It has no incentive to "keep me on the platform" or "keep clicking" or "drive up engagement stats"
So why's it doing that
* "but Matt, that is so that streaming won't cause text to jump." Where did I opt in to streaming? These solve problems for the platform- keep the users clicking.
Give me some friction in my UI, speedbumps, points where the user should, log off and go touch grass.

Finally, a chat window that would have kept Anthony Weiner out of the national news.
Should I add a "hey, is that picture of yourself in your underwear?" pop up on "send"? What percent of the time would that be valuable? See these are the product design questions that were never asked and it sunk Twitter as a viable competitor.
Merging Bsky and Mastodon feeds is so awesome! It is like all the people I miss from twitter are back!
Why don't all Mastodon & Bsky clients read Bsky & Mastodon? It's sort of like federation but without the server load. The user controls it, so no problems similar to complaints people had about Instagram threads.
Having to config an app password is annoying tho. Mastodon has a better oauth-app onboarding story.
Ever go to a profile page to decide if you want to follow them and all you see are 50 retweets and replies and then just give up? Or on Mastodon, 25 pins?
Look at this, I've wanted this since 2007 when it was called twttr

If Canada could try not being on fire, we'd appreciate it, thanks.
IDEA: anyone with more followers than you gets a blue checkmark, relative to you, they're celebrities
Ho! Look at that tiny icon!
I've done what no one was willing to do, it is a bsky-mastodon client. I just want to follow the people I used to follow on Twitter, with the 2018 user interface and Twitter blue features for free.
Here it is

Youtuber collections
Roughly people who are busy on youtube AND mastodon.
This is the 1/3 of candidates who didn't mind being in a collection.
Mind you these are all people who are more or less *celebrities* - and 1/3 third of these people who spend $$ and hours per week to get attention, did not opt in to being in a collection to protect their privacy so as not to be too easy to find on the internet.

- So many languages
- Other is a bad category
- Organizations ended up in the same category as people
- I only get 10 collections, so taxonomies are limited to dividing youtubers into 10 sort of youtubers♡ 1 ↻ 0
So on my idea of a Mastodon client where I can merge my bsky, rss and mastodon feeds... looks like it is going to work.
Except, (I haven't been paying attention), Nitter is so thoroughly nerfed that you can't even get RSS out of it.
So I try to make 10 collections (can't make 11!) of youtubers that are active on mastodon.Of 430 odd accounts, 63% of them did not opt into being part of a collection. I don't even know if I opted in to being part of a collection.
I can barely find anyone who has a collection so I can test how it looks in the mastodon clients I'm hacking on.
Finally, I have fixed it. I got mastodon looking even more like 2018 twitter and I got Twitter blue features, like reader mode, themes and such.
Next? DUAL bsky-mastodon client. One stream!

Ever wonder how much money is flowing into mastodon from donation?
Rough estimate via patreon data. That's like enough money for 3 or 4 FTEs.
I'm the 2,655th most followed person on Mastodon? This place feels bigger than it is.

IDEA: mastodon client that implements all the pre-musk Twitter Blue features.
- reader mode
- You should get a blue check that only you can see because only you know that you really are you.
- Book mark folders/library (machine grouping)
- Delete & Repost (variation on editing)
- Auto split long posts
- (optional) prompt "do you really want to post that" and 30 second delay before it really is posted so you can cancel it.
- Theming
IDEA: we rename it to CI/AD - continuous integration, annual delivery
How long does it take for a github pages HTTPS cert to show up as trusted?
Long time apparently.
Some more work towards reviving the look and feel of 2018 Twitter, "the good twitter" before Twitter itself messed up what wasn't broken.
Naming is hard. All the domain names are already taken. mockingbird[.]com goes to some linked in page.
After I buy the domain, the dictionary tells me that mawk mean maggot and, mawkish means, yucky or insincerely emotional.

IKEA opened near my house. Time to practice to my Svenska.
This is how you do RTO.
Here in America I'm summoned to do RTO to floor after empty floor.
Feeling a schism coming on. No way the flying spaghetti monster can fly. Sure he walks.
IDEA: gh-profiler but it is a dossier on all the things that make people upset on Mastodon, like where do they stand on Finnish politics? Did they ever invite you to their birthday party?
(I'm joking, gh-profiler is actually pretty thoughfull and neutral.. there is another tool who's name I forget that tries to infer, "was an LLM used")
gh-profiler says I'm okay.
It's because I don't offer to do anything for anyone, not because I don't use LLMs.
Effectiveness of job search
- Mastodon - zero, unless you're in one of those communities of 10 people (e.g. device driver writers for electron microscopes)
- LinkedIn - very effective, if you post content on the regular, especially if it isn't all about how angry you are about the job market. The recruiters don't want to hear it. They want to hear "hey, I'm your guy, I'm talking about tech and working in tech"
- Github - Ha! ha! No one will find you there. For portfolio show-off after 1st call

Design: A global static class that loads a type script file that loads a json file that are all compile time constants. Another global static class that loads environment variables set in a yaml file that are also compile time constants.
If only we could double the number of layers of indirection to our compile time constant we'd have flexibility. And double the number of ways to wrap compile time constants. Maybe a template that compiles to yaml and we could store constants in the template.
dev: I don't care about dead code. I don't care about anything, dead code isn't causing anyone any problems
ok write unit tests for the dead code to get coverage to 90%
dev: There is nothing more important than identifying dead code and deleting it.
Tired: tkinter gui's
Wired: pygame gui's
Now that I've created a tkinter gui for the AWS console, I want something pretty and the ability to use a game controller to blow up RDS instances.
https://pypi.org/project/gui4aws/
TODO: A zero dependency #python app can be installed with
- git clone
- or download zip,
executed with python -m
But you can't search #pypi for these apps.
These apps have minimal supply chain risk
Are still "installable" in locked down environments
I got people on my team that still can't get uv, pip or pipx to work with Artifactory. (Why don't they just use pipenv, or setuptools or poetry or ...)But they're more or less unfindable.

How to pay for a framework? Imho, it should start with a money making enterprise first (broadly defined, a government department brings in $ from budget allocations) and create an app framework as a side effect.
I've been asking the bot to create tkinter GUI's for everything and, man, pygame GUI's are where its at.
IDEA: superstitious versioning. No unlucky numbers, no 13.0.0 and no 6.6.6 and the like.
Today we are reminded that maybe there is a Treasure map on the back of the Declaration of Independence. I suggest we mount an expedition to find it. We ride at dawn. Bring your metro cards.
I am offering a 5% stake in Matthew Martin to the government for a very reasonable price. No managerial control or voting rights are conferred. I think the US government should accept ASAP at a very reasonable capitalization of $1B or I could entertain offers from Canada, Burundi and Paraguay.
I'm going to get a dumb phone so when I say a word like, salubrious, it will be impressed.
