Happy story, baby shoes all worn. No one died. Probably.

@acdha Also this is 2nd time in one day...this morning I tried to set up my daughter's headphones which claimed to need a phone app. The phone app wanted an account. The account sign up was awful. The the app fails to work at all and the headphones only work with ordinary bluetooth, so the docs probably lied that there was any need or benefit for the app.
Incandescently mad at IKEAs shopping experience. You can't do anything (efficiently without a price penalty) with out a family card and logging in. Sign on didn't recognizey account anymore, can reset password, can't create new account, can open the android app. #ikea used to be pleasant.
I am experiencing "Alanis Morissette" irony, ie I am experiencing good and bad things at the same time. The food is good, #Ikea still has no forks to give, coffee is $1.50 for 4 tablespoons because their coffee machine is broken.

You can't see the full list of friends/followers of an account on twitter now? just the first ~200?
Okay, here is the Python Data Engineer job listing, almost certainly on my team. Either way, if you're a python developer, especially working in big data, apply!

@vees@epistolary.org Good thing Mastodon lacks search so I can be the 1st to say what a hoot it would be if the hurricane veered west and went to Dallas.
Code Kata: Write a function that will remove all duplicated letters, so that strawberry becomes strawbery.
How many r's in strawberry?
r - if you are exactly 17
rr - if you are 17+
rrr - if you're 18+
#pytest - is there a way to make pytest only run a test if another test (or tests) has run first?
Job 1 is do what your client or supervisor asks. But Job 0 is to pay the mortgage.
TODO: Create a Hertzsprung–Russell diagram for opensource projects.
It would involve lines of codes and numbers of issues. At the end of the maintainers' work life, they go supernova or burnout leaving a software developer remnant, which is the most bitter thing in the universe. A single teaspoon is more bitter than a mountain of coffee.
@HP ya gotta check out this video about the state of HP customer support, not to speak of the hardware

@jamiemccarthy If I post a github repo and it is forked with secrets, then that is my bad. If I fork someone else repo, commit something I wish I didn't and I can't delete it, then that is Github's bad.
In the video he does a demo of how Git**lab** does it and Gitlab doesn't allow access to deleted forks.
Explainer of the "you can**'t** delete a fork" and "private repos might not actually be private" feature in #github
Other than stealing API keys, I'm at a loss for what good this "feature" is
Roombas for Walz, we like maps too.
@AlSweigart I tried to do this and my Path based solutions were not good enough. The reliable solution would be to use folder permissions, but adding folder permissions on the fly would be clunky and not very cross platform.

Pytest plugin tutorial. Go down this path and pretty soon you'll be using pytest as a general task runner.
And everyone should use pytest-randomly or the like. It exposed so many quirks in my test suites.

My vSLAM (Non-non LIDAR) #Roomba i7 works great. It's got personality.
- sends me pictures of clutter, which should be read in an indignante voice, "What is THIS?"
- actually cleans better than an upright because it has the patience to spend one hour cleaning 1 floor.

@ebooksyearn I still see the same view counts on my promotions of Mastodon as non-mastodon tweets. I think right now the impact of soft-shadow-banning non-blue-checks is much bigger than any deboosting of competitors mentions

This is a novelty and I think this is how some angry people think all LLM assisted programming works. The snippet asks the LLM to implement the function at runtime and run the code w/no human in the loop.
No one is promoting doing this

@AI
def is_optimistic(text: str) -> bool:
""" Determines if the text is optimistic"""
assert is_optimistic("This is amazing!")

@chikim Lucky you got access. I bet the bot still knows how to be that bubbly, but now you have to ask for it.

#mastodon
Can someone create a tool that will find all your mastodon social network when you paste in:
- your own profile links to insta, github, rss feed list, etc
- It finds your friends profiles and then checks if those profiles have mastodon account.
The thing that did the same for twitter kicked off the biggest twitter migration ever and since the twitter API was killed, AFAIK, nothing has replaced it
I have never bought anything from a locked plexiglass box.
I think you need monopoly power to get people to go along with that sort of shopping experience.
The practice of seizing foreigners to use as trading tokens makes me think no foreigner should ever visit Russia for any reason. This can't be good for tourism, foreign investment, etc. This will be a return to the Iron Curtain.
Also, that these prisoners were seized on weak accusations, really diminishes any reputational gain Russia could get by appearing "magnanimous"
The H1B lottery favors staffing companies. I can't summarize my thoughts on this.
- Allowing brain drain to the US helps the US immensely
- Immigration policy is all compromise with groups hostile to any immigration, so the current bad policies might just be the possible ones
- We should open the borders to everyone who can pass a background check and financial means test & family based system for everyone else. (US policy is mostly family based)
Economically speaking the boarder should be open as politics will allow, even if it means instituting inefficient or ineffective gatekeeping strategies that create the political acquiescence to allow immigration at all.
