@acdha If someone wants to talk about people rejecting medical science, the Christian Scientists are standing right there. The Jobs story, imho, is a lot closer to what people do when the doctor says, "Well you got a 90% chance of dying, your options are awful" and that has nothing to do with being smart/dumb/anti-science/or vegan. And people do various things, probably dictated by culture

I can't find the original source on if or if not Jobs was exposed to the toxic chemicals involved in their manufacture or if he was strictly an office worker (who handed off his chip design work to Wozniak)

It is a game of odds, pull some levers and your odds get better.
Lifestyle is big, but at best you can go from 60-80 to 90 (years lived), or improve your health span.
Once you get cancer or dementia, you're toast. Many lifestyle factors can delay it.
Heart disease is excess calories, esp saturated fat & being sedentary (all 3) & is largely avoidable.
Cancer is what will kill you if something else doesn't kill you first.
Almost all top 10 deadly diseases are caused by/prevented by the same things- being sedentary, excess calories, sat fat, smoking, booze, eating 0 fiber. Even if you do all the right things, at best you'll stay active & healthy into 80s and die between 90-100.
This list of causes is a modern thing. We used to die of violence, (giving/being) birth(ed), bacteria, viruses, accidents.

Most cancers have no cure (but we are getting better at detecting them earlier and watching people... die on schedule). His doctors bullied him into eating meat & violating his principles before he died

re: Burning Man, AI & climate
The reaction against burning man & AI is culture-war/culture shock. If we zero'd out Burning Man & AI, we still as a global community have mutually agreed to burn all the fossil fuels in the world, if not in transit, in Industry, if not Industry, in making more excess meat & calories. If we don't burn it today, we'll burn it all tomorrow.
Discourse ignoring that is culture wars.
No individual choice changes that. These are global political policy issues & somehow all the governments in the world need to cooperate on doing something different, or we'll just have to get used to an eocene-climate world-- no ice caps, farming in north canada & antartica & uninhabitable countries on the equator
