@daycoder The tax is real, just it is negative. Everyone is taxed to increase production quantities & the income of livestock companies & farmers via ag subsidies.

@AlSweigart And it will do it from memory too. I was retyping some code from an 1980s book & copilot autocompleted the whole thing from memories of an OCR'd PDF in the training data.
DALLE 3 is much better now.

Quantum Many-Worlds productivity hack:
Each time you add an item to your TODO list, the universe splits into two, the world where you follow through and do the thing and the world where you don't. Add lots and lots of TODO items to your list.
I must have rotten luck though, I'm in the world were I didn't get anything done.
I won't achieve my dream of being a baby doctor. I'm already no longer a baby.

Well, there goes the day.
Shooter signs up for "get out of jail for shooting people insurance" and then shoots someone first chance he gets.
I've been accosted by people pushing religion, trying to take surveys, asking for directions, people with actual mental illness-- didn't need to shoot any of them.

ChatGPT, please write the dark magic words to chant while the #terraform is running. It should bring fortune to the developers if it works and curse them if the terraform script blows up.
`
By the code of HashiCorp and the cloud so vast,
May this Terraform script execute without blast.
Bring fortune to developers, make our infra last,
*But if our scripts should falter and fail,* *Let the logs tell a woeful tale.*

So nerfed.
@neurobashing Nah, I was grousing about how they moved my cheese & I'd give up on using it because so many packages were missing (alpine is missing everything... I thought that was what AL2023 was trying to recreate) & now it seems I have to use AL2023. For all I know just my Dockerfiles have this problem.
@wiseup2riseup ChatGPT most likely didn't create these jokes. When asked for jokes, it usually repeats ones it read elsewhere. You can tell because it is abysmal at making original jokes. These are offensive & not enjoyable, but but funny (from the violating expectations pattern).
@acdha Maybe it has improved since I last tried to use it. The docs say the total number of packages is the same, but when I tried to use it as a base image I just got a lot of missing packages that I had to install, the same experience you get with alpine.
"Amazon Linux End of Life is 2025-06-30". But #AL2023 is like alpine.
Not happy about this.

#chatgpt 4 speaks good #tokipona. This is so crazy.
Toki pona is a not very well attested constructed language. ChatGPT 3.5 was pretty bad at toki pona.

META: because so few people have taken the time to enable search, search already has a lot of SEO spam. On #mastodon, you get an infinity SEO boost by just checking the box to make your posts searchable.

@acdha @njvack Malibu *did* have that feature. It was called "Teen Driver" mode. I haven't checked if this is a feature of all GM cars, or just certain trim levels.

@h_tejas Historians already have to deal with documents where we don't know who really said it or if they were really trying to be honest or not.
People would have to judge a document on internal and external consistency & smart people will. People driven by emotion will continue to believe texts that make them feel what they want to feel (hate, rage, the munchies, whatever) and it will be mostly status quo.
In the future we will only have a job if we can do something that AI can't...
- Draw hands
- Tell jokes
- Violate the OpenAI Terms of Service
Attempts to get DALL-E to draw itself.
- a little girl (probably because Dall-e sounds like a girl's name)
- a thing that creates multiple variations of pictures. It seems to know that AI pic generators create multiple options.
- random people, some percent with art tools (probably picking up on the word draw)
- (not shown) Bare "dall-e", "dall*e" are recipe pictures
- (not shown) Other attempts w/o the word "draw" or "self" and I just get the text repeated back
re: climate impact of people choosing to attend/host big events (burning man, Berlin Marathon)
Everything we do is transformation of fossil fuels.
- all food - natural gas -> fertilizer -> grain -> meat (grass, you're so funny, it is a rounding error)
- all services - food -> people -> services
- all goods - oil -> plastic, oil -> ship, oil -> operate
You can't give up oil like cigarettes.
People (including me!) tend to think about climate as being a problem of direct usage of fossil fuels, e.g.
- car (burning gasoline)
- house (burning gas)
Leaving things like books, clothing, side walks as innocent consumption. But all of that is embodied fossil fuel usage.
(how to get out of the Bors, guy in a well, "yet you participate in society problem"... I think most likely we will set all the fossil fuels on fire and wreck the global climate. We're good at making evolutionary changes (10% more fuel efficient cars!), but not good at leaving perfectly burnable fossil fuel in the ground forever & making sure no one else sets it on fire either)
Our efforts to reduce-reuse-recycle are lotto tickets that we might escape this mess.

I got an AWS ALB throwing 5xx errors, I think I need to reboot it, but there is no option in the AWS Web Console, so if y'all don't mind, I'm going to just reboot us-east-1. I think it is one of those big windowless buildings in Herndon, VA, I'll just unplug it and plug it back in, shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. Thanks.

@neurobashing No, at the moment they mostly check credit report & criminal history. If you already got a clearance, or had one some time in your career it is a breeze. Our challenge has been hiring from areas where the workforce doesn't normally ever touch on federal employment & they're just not in the system (eqip, etc) My company does public trust level stuff.
