Today I'm thinking about LLMs and disinformation & how common it is for people to believe nonsense. LLMs don't have an #epistemology and I think the meat based ones don't either.
What we have is an environment that gives us feedback (e.g. visiting Myrtle Beach in August is as sensible as visiting Venus). When we have no feedback from reality, we can believe any trash & there is no mechanism to dislodge our hallucinations and lies we've been told.
@malwaretech You get the option to buy them cheaper than market price. The incentive part is that if you work hard & the company is successful, the options are worth the market price minus the strike price. If you don't work hard, then the stockmarket falls below the strike price and the options are worthless.
If you called your broker & said, buy me IBM at 10cents, he'd say there are no buyers. If IBM grants you options, then IBM will sell you the shares (new issuance).
Do you use #VPN?
Does it always wreck DNS for #WSL, #Podman, Zoom, etc.?
Maybe you need: #WSLVPKit
https://github.com/sakai135/wsl-vpnkit
It worked for me, it could work for you.
@jay Speaking from experience, your choices are:
- Change the carpet for a hard, impermeable surface.
Hope that helps.
Overheard at Panera:
People are making large financial decisions assuming we're going to be on the "gold standard" again any election now.
(I think the odds are better to start using Yapish stone coins.)
Use the LinkedIn provider for #terraform, like this:
```bash
terraform plan
terraform apply
# Check the exit code
if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
echo "An error occurred!"
terraform update-resume
@neurobashing It is a junior developer. If human junior developers were invented today, people would react much the same.
@chrisod There should be an RV/camper sales person right outside the timeshare sales office- because after listening to the pitch, $16,000 for a camper sounds like a bargain.
IDEA: For $25,000 and a $1500 a year maintenance fee, you spend your vacation hacking on a OS/360 IBM mainframe.
I survived the #timeshare sales pitch. If Hilton offers you a cheap hotel deal, it might be a timeshare pitch.
Here is what John Oliver had to say -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd2bbHoVQSM
I'm thinking, if you vacationed 1 week a year, and paid $215 a night for a hotel, that is the same as a typical annual maintenance fee on a #timeshare ($1500), so even if the upfront cost was cheap or $0 (which it can be on the 2ndary market, $2k +/- ... it still doesn't compete with paying cash for a hotel.
♡ 0 ↻ 0I'm looking up how much hotel I can get for a $1500 a week, cash. I can get a lot of hotel for that much cash. Beachfront luxury hotels can run double that.
♡ 0 ↻ 0By comparison to the price of a hotel in cash or the timeshare price--- Hilton Honors + Hilton Amex is getting your hotel for free it is so cheap in comparison.
So that's my endorsement for today. Sign up for #HiltonHonors and get inexpensive vacations, even the $500 a year credit card fee version works out to being incredibly cheap (compared to cash or timeshare)
Ag report from North Carolina... Corn is mixed green brown and looks stressed. Corn dies at 112F. Temp on the road is 100.
Next big vacation I'm going to Montreal. I'll be surrounded by forests on fire and will have to mask up, but hey, 75 degrees. This summer I chose California and South Carolina and I'm on fire. Or boiling, it's pretty humid
Wow, ast.literal_eval and eval are slow.
Serialization/Deserialization
------------------------------
Pickle: 0.7 seconds
JSON: 2.8 seconds
HBN (repr +ast.literal_eval): 23.4 seconds
HBN (repr + eval): 22.2 seconds
The slow part is the eval, the repr part is only 1.1 seconds
HBN (repr + exec): 17.5 seconds
Next to write it to a file and import it dynamically....
♡ 0 ↻ 0HBN (repr + write to .py file + import + reload module) : 9.7 seconds
WOW. This stupid hack is 2x faster than ast.literal_eval, eval and exec!
♡ 1 ↻ 0Okay, published a new version of hissbytenotation, fixed a bad bug, added config, speed benchmarks, tox passes. I should benchmark it against markpickle.
The difference is subtle, but specifying a personality makes such an improvement. #ChatGPT's default personality is saccharine & overly cautious.
Almost no one is posting about python packaging in the "poetry" tag.
Okay, #pipenv is going to make me wait cumulative YEARS for the lockfile to be updated. Typing `--skip-lock` is always faster than waiting for the lockfile to be created. The lockfile should be created on the build server where the machine is infinitely more patient than me.
```$ pipenv install --dev --skip-lock
The flag --skip-lock has been deprecated for removal. ```
Okay one of my projects
Poetry - 44s
#Pipenv skip lock - 1m5s
Pipenv w/lock - 1m12sAlso in the area of popularity, poetry is 2x more popular.
https://pypistats.org/packages/poetry 800k
https://pypistats.org/packages/pipenv 400kWho else is competitive in the poetry/pipenv space? #python

Add Thread.Sleep("8 hours") to your server apps so you server will be well rested in the morning
IDEA: automated standup script. It would gather the git diffs from each team member & any changes to Jira since yesterday.
By the way, was #ChatGPT trained by listening to your standup briefs? Check here to see if you can find your words

#AgeOfAIProblems #Git doesn't have a way to say "this line of code was written by ChatGPT" - keeping 2 clones in sync & committing the chatgpt bits in one & the human in the other sounds very clunky. Comments & commit messages are just a bandaid on the problem.

If a open source library decides to turn it into malware to get paid, really, you have no right to complain. To get something for free you get the right to fork or fork off & leave. No one owes you anything & they're not family.
(But I yelled at the maintainer in an indigent tone! He must obey me now! But are we not family? How could he violate our agreement that he'd work for free and I exploit this code for no compensation? He signed it in my imagination! What about utopia?!)
So I bought the wrong lotto ticket- Megamillions instead of Powerball. So with my rotten luck I will win $20 million Friday instead of $170 million today.
I'm up to the part of "Ageless" where he discusses the cell by cell damage
- DNA copy errors
- DNA hit by cosmic rays
- cellular trash that can't be removed
And the ideas to do genetic therapy to fix the DNA. Except, think, this is like having a different genetic disease in each cell. So in cell one you need to cure Huntington's, in cell 2, Cystic fibrosis, and so on.
Turning a cell into a baby reboots the DNA "computer" & resets all the cells.
"*Forty Signs of Rain"* is climate change scifi and #WashingtonDC floods. How would OPM react.
I'm back to coding with #ChatGPT and Code Interpreter is magic. It wrote a tiny CCG engine and fixed the bugs until it worked (well, ran to completion with out errors)

What percent of your content is on a server where you control the robots.txt? 0.05%?
The decisions is made by the ToS for all the places where you write content (including comments, etc)
#OpenAI should be proposing a robots.txt add-on say what text on your site is generated by AI or with the help of AI, so it doesn't train on it.
Ain't no town that freaks out harder about weather than #WashingtonDC.
What song captures the vibe

Been waiting 12 years for high speed bus.
@grammargirl If you ask it to speak British, ChatGPT3.5 keeps writing American spelling regardless. If you ask Chat GPT 4, it will use "colour" and suggest putting beans on toast. If you don't tell it you're British and want to hear British English, it will suggest 20 things to put on toast, but not beans.
The bot has no idea where you are. Bard has a feature to tell the bot where you are tho, but I didn't do any experiments with it.
I turn 50 and read "Ageless" just to find out that sometime between 50 & 65, the immune system just about disintegrates- thymus (maker of killer T cells) disappears, lymph nodes also start to disappear, cellular trash collection services begin discovering trash they can't metabolize, kidneys & liver filter out less trash per round of filtering.
Good news is the science on the biological mechanisms has gotten pretty good?

You ever see people doing `repr(some_dict)` and then attempting to load that string into json, eg `json.loads(some_dict_repr)` and they are sad that JSON isn't actually #python syntax?
This library (that I will soon publish) is my first step to solving that problem.
Hiss Byte Notation, say hello to the world.
Published! Needs more features now.

In the future if you want to make money as a side hustle you can sell compute in your brain on RunPod Community Cloud. You could run a variety of templates for $3.99/hr before fees, such as meat-based-LLM, or telemarketer.
That's a nice 450,000 followers account you got there, would be a pity if something were to happen to it
