Mastodon strategy: So I now got 8 accounts. I opened a #running account because:
- There is an upper bound on how much running my small audience wants to hear about here.
- I can follow a running tag here, but not all of them or it will flood my feed
- Retweeting running content here uses up my small budget for "off topic" content ("Off topic" here means, all the stuff that is too far from my typical, the content that encouraged people to follow me initially)

#python every python release has more type annotations that aren't backwards compatible, but if you stripped off the annotations, it would become backwards compatible with no runtime change! But if I strip off the annotations, any developer using it as a library suffers.
Options
- tool to strip off annotations, ship nude package
- ship it twice
- use .pyi all the time (ugh!)
- python switch/config option to ignore annotations & typing imports

Someday I want to just pick up the mail and not have to chat with the overly friendly,
#VSCode is free in the same way that you can write an IDE yourself for free is free. I'm complaining specifically about the time spent configuring plugins.
An empty text file where you can write rust or c can also be viewed as an IDE with plugin support. Just plug in enough code and you got an IDE or an IDE with a RPG game. Unlimited power and flexibility all for free!

@johnclint I think the widespread use of the word to describe this in LLMs happened after the training data & ChatGPT was trained to disclaim anything that is a "human-only" quality.
Good news, #pycharm etc will become conscious.
#jetbrains will bundle LLM code completion. Since I have copilot installed as well, which already conflicts with plain vanilla code completion, I wonder if I'll get triple conflicts (two AIs and code completion all attempting to suggest what to tab complete)

@AlSweigart We put a ton of data into dict & pandas data frames both because we like the API they provide & don't think twice about ACID. So if SQL is a better interface for the problem, the lack of ACID is irrelevant. dotnet world has/had a similar class DataSet which also was a mini-in memory database.

Today is 1,234 days since March 11, 2020.
- I live with too many people who don't/can't/won't mask so I've only been wearing a mask on planes and trains
- I work at home so I'm not often around people anyhow
- As far as I know I never got covid, I never got a positive test
I figure post-pandemic, personal covid protocols are now "anti-microorganism" protocols. Just imagine, a whole world of other things to worry about, such as tick borne disease, like Lyme! MRSA!
And it doesn't take coordination of everyone around you to fight Lyme or MRSA. The anti-science, reckless crowd can lick doornobs at hopitals and roll in the leaves on the forest floor and you can do the opposite & you won't get sick even if they do.
This is an improvement.

How to break into tech
- Read the manual-"Learning Python", etc
- Have a side project on github
- Don't google questions/coding solutions in interviews
- Don't BS, be willing to say I don't know/remember.
- Play with your cards up (e.g. ask if you can google the syntax for mocking a return value)
If you object to one or more of the above, you need to think up an alternate way. Indignation, resentment-aren't job qualifications*
* by indignation, I mean, the common objections like
- "I can code in Javascript, I shouldn't have to demonstrate Python"
- "I don't owe the world my spare time for a public side project"
- "If it can be googled a candidate should need to know it"
- "BS? I don't BS. You're BS"
- "Looking up fizzbuzz on a 2nd monitor is about my right to privacy"For the speed readers - you get to agree with some of these indignant feelings, but not all of them, or else a candidate becomes unevaluatable.

@mforester Yes, the technology is so close & when it works it is magic. The rest of the time I'm scrolling thru bug reports in github (both MS's and Redhat's) If it was reliable, I'd use it everywhere.

When I was a heavy user of twitter I got 200 views & the news feed seemed busy. After the takeover, my new feed slowed down, but I kept getting ~200 views per tweet. In the recent month or so, I now get ~50-100 views per tweet.
Once a mailbox is large enough the inbox is the trash folder.
#python artifact version numbers are an evolved mess. Same for metadata. The central body should have chosen some better (any?) defaults/tools very early in the program language's existence and should be a task on par with choosing keywords and datatypes.
Someday I should do a review & see how all the other languages/ecosystems did it.

I realize why I dislike "I got my tickets done, I can take the rest of the day/week off"-I mean, aside from the federal time card fraud crime part

-"I got my tickets done" is an arbitrary quitting time, it means "I worked until I didn't feel like working on it anymore"
There is an element of "definition of done" and did it pass process, but that is a fiction we project over the reality of coding
Clarification because this is social media: "Eight hours for work, eight hours for rest and eight hours for what you will." is still a fair slogan
