So there are no physical or mail order DVD rental companies anymore at all? Not even the last Blockbuster?
Federal taxes. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ paid on time.
MD taxes. $$$$$. Paid on time but filing was 3 hours late (depends on if they are strict about postmark dates)
VA taxes. -$. Filed early.
No one is laughing at my jokes about the #IRS - they must be on hold trying to sign up for an account.
The #irs 's ID.ME says you are so ugly it doesn't recognize you as having a face.
The #irs 's ID.ME says you are so ugly it wants you to move back and keep moving until you're out of the solar system.
The #irs 's ID.ME says you are so ugly it gave up trying to scan your face and wants to scan your butt.
The #irs 's ID.ME says you are so ugly you don't deserve to pay taxes online and will have to figure out some other way.
#IRS hates your face. They rigorously tested it with a bunch of different faces, nazi's, white supremacists, race-war accelerationists and somehow it still doesn't recognize human faces.

@sirber@fosstodon.org copilot doesn't restrict itself to code from github, it uses code found anywhere in the training data which was the whole internet. (I realized this when it quoted code from a PDF), so posting dodgy code anywhere will do the trick (after the model gets retrained again)
Tired: AWS free tier
Wired: Using your .gov email address to try out cloud.gov for free
( cloud.gov appears to be a cloud thing layered on top of AWS)
@ebooksyearn The movie needed a happy ending, so the gremlins must all die and be inert. The real question that needs answering, if a dead gremlin was given the T virus, put in water & reproduced as is usual, would the already dead meat be vegan. Imho, no, because you still need to kill a mogwai to start the chain of events that leads to self replicating monster soup chunks.
@ebooksyearn They can be killed, so they should stay dead. Now if we had a cross-over of Gremlins & Resident Evil, it is a different story.
How to npm install & ng build. I mean what else are you going to do with that time?
`google-chrome https://www.google.com/search?q=speed+up+npm+install && npm install`

“I’m going to eat meat, like 95 percent of my countrymen, both Democrat and Republican, in the country that already eats the most meat per capita in the world, most of it produced and processed by huge agribusiness conglomerates, because I am a rebellious, independent freethinker who rejects globalist dogma and control,”

Just to go on record, if you use mastodon as a blog (very long threads of 500 char tweets each) and put *every single one* in a CW, forcing me to click every one, I will never read your tweet storms. Just post a link to your blog. 25 CW tweets take up just as much space in my feed, it is not like your are saving me from anything.

Null? safe? code? is astonished ?? code.
We've gone from LLMs that take the electricity of a city to run to LLMs that run in a browser in what, five months
@mnl We could start with banning vim and PHP, a lot more bang for your dodgy tool banning buck.
Hey javascript people. Here is how you handle a situation where you can't continue
```typescript
if (records.length === 0) {
throw Error('No records provided, cannot continue.')
}
```
Not a quiet early return, not adding a `?.1` question mark to every object with a property, not wrapping in a try/catch-blank catch body.
Of course there is a global error handler that is discarding all errors, so you gotta find that too & disable it.
Why so many tech companies want to pivot to being the next gab, truth, parler?
I'm thinking Spotify, Twitter, #Substack - none of these have to go down that road, but their senior management is just so drawn to it.
@andrewfelix It needs the Wolfram Alpha plug in, you have to apply for beta access. Once it has tools, it can do math.
How does anyone do unit testing in javascript where everything about the run time is trying to hide errors and you need a plug in to enable error messages to break tests.
The language is incapable of throwing an error that some code isn't ignoring for you! So robust!
As any #python developer knows, this is a duck.
I got 14,782 problems, and they are all lint.
@koen_hufkens I like the guy who lies about working to his two bosses but thinks it is no different than working 2 shifts, if he's not selling the same hour twice, he doesn't have to lie to his bosses.
is anti-AGI chatter some version of "Descartes mugger", where you convince someone to believe/do nonsense because you plausibly imagine a world where not doing so has some probability of infinite loss.
If you don't gimmie all your money, AI is going to wreck you, infinitely. No matter how low the odds AI will wreck you & giving me all your money will stop it, negative infinity times anything is still negative infinity, so rationally you're writing a check right now.
You can create the left wing/right wing/pro-Chat-GPT/anti-chatGPT versions just by juggling the words. The content of the trick doesn't matter, just the payoff matrix.

Do not go gentle into that legacy code,
Old devs should burn and rave at close of day;

I've been programming since 2nd grade. If I'd known how valuable it would become, I think I would have been more consistent coding between grades 3 and college.
Anyone know how the FAR (Federal Acquisition Register) handles billing of fractional hours of labor? Is it the nearest 1% of an hour or 1/10 of an hour? or are there rounding rules involved
https://www.wifcon.com/discussion/index.php?/topic/2003-fractional-hourly-billing/
@jemal@jemal.contact I mean, the closest analogy I can think of is
- Hutu and Tutsi taking turns attempting to exterminate each other (yeah maybe it was racist Belgians fault, but they were gone, decolonization happened, all paradise, right?)
- De-Ba'athification where post Sadam the out group attempted to remove the in-group from all areas of society (gutting the government of everyone with experience in the process)
- South African replacing politically awful people with a different demographic
@jemal@jemal.contact India is the closest I can think of as a counter example, where they (not without its own controversy) tried to coexist by reserving a % of government, education for classes previously kept out. They could have decided to slaughter the Brahmans and felt good about because Brahmans were indeed oppresive.

@jemal@jemal.contact I'm subtweeting someone who was referencing demographic groups, not political parties. I'm fine with nazi's and their parties being relegated to irrelevance. The left is a broad diverse coalition and not all the subgroups are sensible.
Only you can write unit tests.
TODO: Get midjourney to create smokey bear in this pose & clothing.
I think some % the US left are unable to speak to how groups should get along. Some percent of the left might speak to idea of co-existence as a word, but then talk about one group being an enemy that needs to be replaced by the out group. That isn't coexistence. That's picking sides, the Sneeches with stars exterminating the ones without because an argument was made that they're bad.
Why reply to a bad take when mute is right there.
Why is the user experience for #npm and #pip so awful when you have to deal with private repos?
Both tools like to make it impossible to install anything when a credential expires/repo is unreachable and you get useless error messages and have to spend hours googling/ asking 6 people before you find which config file (local? global? other?) has the ref to the private repos

Automatically submit code to #ChatGPT to edit each time your code throws an exception ( `on error modify self` !)
Now, I'm about as pro-ChatGPT as you can get, and this level of trust without a sandbox makes me nervous.
& I wouldn't call it malicious code, it would just be pure Loki energy.
So I got access to #SubstackNotes - not quite a twitter killer, seems more like "twitter-like commenting system"
