re: reddit & twitter killing off APIs
What if a company made an API (instead of App + Api) & agreed with all their customers to only ever sell the API, not to create competing consuming API apps. Then it would be safe to make a business based on an API. There would still be an economic incentive for one party to attempt to try to get more than their fair share of the total. But if the each company was legally prevented from doing the others, it would at least be a commercial suicide pact.
