Us humans got a history of using crude taxonomy axioms as a way to remove agency/humanity/sentience from anything that is problematic for our goals of exploitation, convenience, etc.
If you error on the side of anthropomorphizing, you reduce the number of entities that are safe to exploit, and increase the size of your moral community. People will have to decide which error they are more comfortable with.
