I hate this... "show 1 new item"

This is a dark pattern. Ditto for the notifications lighting up. Ditto for loading infinite tweets on scroll-down.

elk is a free app with cyberbegging. It has no incentive to "keep me on the platform" or "keep clicking" or "drive up engagement stats"

So why's it doing that

* "but Matt, that is so that streaming won't cause text to jump." Where did I opt in to streaming? These solve problems for the platform- keep the users clicking.
