I saw a slide on "utilization vs productivity vs effectiveness = busy time vs stuff done vs right stuff done"
Utilization is an invitation to lie- honestly reporting you or your team is idle is a request to be fired.
Right stuff done- few projects have an easy measure of...
their real output, except maybe ecommerce. Even if you do, finding a direct link from writing backup script to $ is tricky (or implies you should NEVER write a backup script!)
So that leaves productivity (i.e. tickets closed & tickets closed per unit of time, ie. velocity).♡ 0 ↻ 0But if you can't measure productivity, measuring utilization (if you can get honest numbers) is better than nothing-- not paying attention to even utilization leads to utilization problems.
In metrics, the perfect is the enemy of the good.♡ 0 ↻ 0
