Some developer at Syncrony bank mailed out a zillion emails that probably were intended for a test environment.
Someone thought they could prevent errors
- by will power
- by chain of command (bosses will stop the mistakes)
- by denial (mistakes? us?)

Mistakes are stopped by:
- believing mistakes WILL happen. Non stop. Multiples in a row.
- Automate the guards, e.g. if PROD then don't send mail
- Do multiple AUTOMATED checks for what environment you are in.
- Unit tests should check the environment
- Make devs use mocks/fakes♡ 1 ↻ 0Ever take big org computer based training? They are Huge believers in "preventing mistakes by chain of command", ie.
"Are you about to make a mistake in the area of law XYZ? Go to your supervisor so they can stop it."
That is not how mistakes happen.♡ 1 ↻ 0
