If we deal with race, gender, ethnicity as *economic issues*, we win populists (many who'd we call racist chauvinists). If we deal with them as culture, I need to point at issues like vegetarianism & gun control- two issues that there will be no progress on because

some problems don't have a political solution yet, i.e. a solution that can find a coalition of 51% who can work out a compromise. Culture wars have in part replaced religion, i.e. it is unethical to venerate statues of traitors, unless that traitor is a demigod

(the parallels with ancient cultures that deified generals & kings, wow!) Anyhow, I think even progressives know that running a campaign on changing people's religion, promoting vegetarianism is going to lose, so those battles should be fought outside of politics.

And we all should send $ monthly to the political infrastructure of the Ds in Virginia statewide, not just in our super blue home county.
