Mastodon, Discord, Facebook - you have to do an expensive reciprocal invite-accept cycle, some central person has to keep the content flowing & an admin has to keep order. It's social, but it sure isn't like twitter. Site discover & person discover prob too.
I have hardly followed anyone new on facebook in ages- feels like I need to know someone IRL before FB. Discord & Mastodon- gotta discover them in the first place, also high risk of being a ghosttown like a phpBB forum.
