META: isn't mastodon the failed version of what discord succeeds as? (i.e. a host-it-yourself/moderate-it-yourself place for medium-strength social connections ?) That doesn't really match twitter's ability to create connections between people with just-above-zero social links.
By strength of social connection, I mean, the gradient from "my best friend I've known since 2nd grade, my wife, my coworkers, my neighbor, strangers in the same town or career, or complete strangers who share a common language" Facebook is for strong links, Twitter is for weak
