How to find a job on Mastodon:

- post with the #fedihire tags, but really, I've followed those tags, no one is looking at them, it's a mess
- **Where's your LinkedIn**? A retweet from a developer **on LinkedIn **is worth $$$
Developers login to Mastodon daily. They login to LinkedIn when they're unemployed. You have to solicit a repost on linked in from Mastodon or bluesky.
When you're unemployed, that is not the time to be coy about who you really are, unless you only want sympathy
Lost your job? I can't do shit about that because I got 500ms before I got onto the next post and I'm not going to DM you for your location and timezone and jurisdiction.

Then go add features to Mastodon that make it pleasant for a recruiter (right now the privacy features make it pleasant as poking my eyeballs out) and effective for job searchers.
♡ 2 ↻ 0But Matt, I got 2 jobs from Twitter. True story, me too. But that was because twitter for a brief moment in time had universal sign up. Twitter made it effortless to find people who lived in communing distance of your office (city in bio!).
Mastodon, at best, let's you know that everyone is probably near Germany, in my case, (google maps says it is an incalculable distance).

To get a job on social media you need
- To follow people in your jurisdiction.
- Put your location in your job posts & profile.
- Be searchable
**Platform: **#Mastodon 's feature set makes it near impossible to do all 3.
**People: **Can you commute to Turkey? Are you legally allowed to work in Canada? People post job search posts like they can. Maybe 1% of #fedihire posts have location.
By the way, hire me. I'm in the greater DC area. If you don't mind a resume full of govtech, I'd even be happy to work remote for anything in the US.

The tech job placement companies that have 2 people pretend to do an interview, with 1 to pretending to talk on zoom & one to do the audio, what is their end goal?
Do they intend the unqualified person to work for 2-6 paychecks & get fired, or is it an overwork "scam" where one person is taking 2+ jobs? In the former case, it is pure scam, employer pays $ for nothing. In the 2nd case, employer gets an real employee, just with very divided attention.
