This is #govtech I guess. Fascist and authoritarian regimes attack epistemology, the idea that there is any truth beyond authority, i.e. things are true because your Dad, minister or great leader said they are true, so non-sense like UFOs is respectable as research on climate change. What is true is what feels good to believe.

- You have to pay $700 + training materials for the exams
- You have to find a company that is willing to sponsor you for a Secret clearance & no one wants to
I think that the bureaucracy has brought this on to themselves. Why should I shell out $700 and a week+ of my time studying for the off hand chance I get a #miltech job?
I see on mastodon that ergonomic tagging is never going to be a perfect taxonomy. I should tag this, #usfederalgovtech or #usmilitarygovtech but no one is following those

If your secret clearance is lapsed, is there any point in applying to jobs that call for a secret clearance?
Are they just collecting resumes? Is this like "internal only" jobs in the civil service, except for "internal to industry"?
Is that something that employers compromise on (changing req from has-clearance to clearable?)
Not a question about the superficial meaning of "Must be clearable" vs "Has active TS/poly". Asking if employers really mean it.
To beat a dead horse, you can post a job req asking for a unicorn and hope to get a candidate with every box checked, but when it doesn't materialize, do dctech companies sigh and say, "Well, I guess we need to move this candidate through the clearance process"?

I'm best at python, AWS, backend work, but I've done it all & supervised people who do it better than me. Open to both lead and IC roles. Can still do Microsoft-stack work (dotnet, etc). Heck, I'll learn z/OS if will help the mission.

That's messed up. People hate involuntary paperwork collection. If they **voluntarily** signed up for it, why should orgs be restricted?

The LinkedIn one seemed to work (took my photo & photo of my driver's license and decided I was me), but IRS's version is just frustration. Anyone who got thru IRSs has to be an imposter because I don't know anyone with that much patience.
