Real question, for mastodon software creaters, who needs to verify age of users - clients (elk/phanpy/etc) or servers (`*.social`)?

Features on #mastodon I hardly ever use
- Unlisted/private scopes
- Scheduled posts
- Sensitive. Why is it on the post? It's the profile that is sensitive and likely to cry if the replies are too mean.
Platforms grow when there are easy to use cross platform account correlation tools, i.e. "import my friends"
To get a job on social media you need
- To follow people in your jurisdiction.
- Put your location in your job posts & profile.
- Be searchable
**Platform: **#Mastodon 's feature set makes it near impossible to do all 3.
**People: **Can you commute to Turkey? Are you legally allowed to work in Canada? People post job search posts like they can. Maybe 1% of #fedihire posts have location.

Can someone create a tool that will find all your mastodon social network when you paste in:
- your own profile links to insta, github, rss feed list, etc
- It finds your friends profiles and then checks if those profiles have mastodon account.
The thing that did the same for twitter kicked off the biggest twitter migration ever and since the twitter API was killed, AFAIK, nothing has replaced it

META: because so few people have taken the time to enable search, search already has a lot of SEO spam. On #mastodon, you get an infinity SEO boost by just checking the box to make your posts searchable.
Google has a better search, although I don't know how to make it search 40+ different sites at a time

#mastodon meta. I just signed up for 2 alt accounts, and all I get is a small text box for my application. I think if I could fill in my bio & link to my other accounts I could make a more compelling argument for letting me join a server.

You can follow a tag, but not a boolean combination of tags. No way to follow # DC and not # Metro(rail)
You can mute a single person or an entire tag, but not a person who won't stop flooding a tag with bad content. (No way to mute @johndoe and #foobar )
Most clients don't allow news feed filter to just tweets by mutuals vs tweets of a tag.

Well, there is always https://hachyderm.io/explore - it has a good reputation, just recently resized to support users at scale & is run by techies.

On my tiny account, if I post a link it generates 100-600 link follows, surely all of those are mastodon instances fetching info
#Mastodon admins need a large upfront pile (one time fixed costs) of money and monthly flow of money there after. Since the business model is charity, people should suggest donors give, say $100 up front and $10 a month (scaled that to whatever monthly amount actually makes sense to donors)
Mastodon development needs a stream of money separate from hosting. So you should donate to the project as well as the host of your particular instance.
*This is no way to run a stable business.*
The 0.1% of people that realize this and shell out their personal funds will not be enough to pay for the free riders. This makes me sad.

I'm in the valley of despair in using mastodon.py - short of
...doing browser automation to do a login and get a token or
...switching to only doing code projects that use anonymous endpoints
...or writing an API wrapper just for login

If gmail adopted activitypub, it would ddos all other instances and would have to be defederated. But also if 1 billion hippies made a nonprofit coop anarchist commune and implemented activitypub, mastodon would still have serious scalability problems.
