#StackOverflow new AI "searcher" doesn't necessarily search the SO Q&A database, but instead gives you a ChatGPT-style answer and some really bad citations (irrelevant Q&As)
I think they're going for a "if you can't beat them, join them" despite the user base (moderators? the company?) making it clear that they don't want ChatGPT answers posted by users.
If they do nothing, they'll keep losing traffic to ChatGPT.
I used to ask & answer question on #Stackoverflow. Then it got hard because everything had been asked & answered & you could get into fights for posting content that wasn't good enough.
Now I read questions & I don't answer because the first thing I'd do is check if #chatGPT knows the answer. Hypothetically I'd check if it actually works because I'm not a lazy moron, but either way, chatGPT code & chatGPT assisted answers are out of bounds.
Because the bad drive out the good, now it is people who just don't care- the post trash and know that they will get yelled at, but they'll also get an answer. Those people should be asking chatGPT directly because chatGPT doesn't care that you are a lazy, disinterested help-vampire and while *often* wrong, is still smarter than them.

IDEA: I could sell my #StackOverflow reputation points so that people could ask questions with a large bounty. $5 for bountied questions. (actually, I'd need to charge $200 to get me to spend time on shepherding the question through the lifecycle)

- Hard to detect unless you've read 100s of ChatGPT answers & code style & other tells, such as a compete absence of grammar & spelling errors
- Correct enough so the poster see no harm it it
- hard to search for (post Nov 2021, is:answer ... ChatGPT likes cliches, but so do people & ChatGPT doesn't *always* use a cliche, e.g. "... this is just a simple example"

They don't have a clear policy on posting "Please fix ChatGPT's code", at the moment, they're the most clear on "ChatGPT said the answer to your question is..." (banned, but maybe not if you somehow check to see if works?)

I've posted it and will give it a bounty in 2 days.
The problem was the API client can't deal with accounts with 2 factor auth enabled and the error message "invalid_grant" isn't exactly suggestive of what the problem really is.

A #Stackoverflow question has up to 4 different licenses, with a different license for the question, answer, each revision. Metadata sites like Github, Pypi support only 1 LICENSE file/license field.
The "hey, could you just post a URL back to the answer/post" papers over that the intellectual property claims are really complicated. Props for them trying to track it at all though.
