Icelandic: Why learn it?
Something to read. It has a popular literature– the sagas.
Cool sounding. Lots of vowels and a few exotic consonants like “ll”
Tiny discount on learning for English speakers. A few, often well hidden, cognates.
Materials available online. You can visit/lurk the Icelandic speaking section of Eve Online.
Why not? Few speakers globally, and those that you are likely to meet in a tourist setting are likely to already speak English. It is a natural language, expect a significant learning curve.
How?
Travel. Get out of the city, increase the odds that you will desperately need to speak Icelandic.
Audio media. There are Icelandic podcasts (hlaðvarp) here, and search for podcasts here.
Just think– all this media over the internet– a continuous stream, free. It’s almost like immersion language learning if you can avoid checking boingboing and the email.
