- Assistant thinks it is good at math (I asked it to rate it's self on a variety of skills vs humans). I think that is just because Wikipedia thinks computers are good at "math" it is a cultural trope. But there are 2 kinds of math, sheer mechanical calculation and the ability to solve essentially word problems, the ability to parse the crazy system of symbolic math & create proofs. What is the word for the 2nd kind of ?

ChatGPT is not good at math, it is laughably bad. If you need it to do math, ask it to write code to do the math, it is far more likely to be correct.

Also, if says, I'm good at math, I'm doing matrix algebra nonstop to answer these questions, it isn't wrong, but it still makes basic math mistakes when give the sort of math problems a human encounters at school
