I think the relevant analogy here is, you think that calculators can't possibly do math like meat machines, so calculators aren't actually adding, so they must be unreliable, wrong and bad.
as if people were saying "a calculator is using 0 & 1, so obviously it isn't doing real decimal math"

Look at behavior. I don't and you don't understand how it was implemented and the implications. I don't think the developers at OpenAI understand the emergent properties of this thing either.
But we can look at behavior and decide if it is useful.
