The company behind `ruff` is a startup so I guess we've solved the opensource funding problem. Take OS projects code, rewrite it in rust and get VC funding & come up with a business model.

Queen Amidala meme: "And the maintainers of pylint, black, etc, who wrote the original code get a cut, right?...Right?"

Yeah, you give stuff away, you deserve what happens, but new incentive is for non-ruff projects to abruptly halt until astral goes out of business or Elasticsearch style licenses, who knows

I think this is a fork. Yes, on 1 hand opensource means "I will do anything I want to including ignoring licenses and laws because your not my dad" but on the other hand,it is sort of like a club & forking active projects isn't automatically going to be seen as pro-social behavior-I'm sure there is a long list of cases where forking is obviously good (abandonware, current maintainer is nuts, coordination would be too expensive, etc)

I think this fork will be good & bad
