These were urban doctors, teachers & veterans of WW2. They grew a huge amount of food because they all remember the famines, near famines & the like. In full collapse (like what prepper are prepping for, were screwed because we can't defend our potatoes from a guy with a gun. In semi-collapse, the stores are mostly empty...

Damn, I remember we had a class exercise in 4th grade about "what would you do in a nuclear war/what national policies should be enacted" and my groups idea was we should make sure small scale ag could resume.
I'm too old to move to Canada, but that is what I would tell my 18 year old self if I could time travel. Not sure what immigration policy will be in a (semi)collapse.
