If you got a company that depends on a weird community who writes code for free, maybe you have to observe their quirky customs if you want them to keep writing code for free. Or pay them.

Anyhow, other people have tried to monetize linters and failed, so ruff might not be viable until the company dies and people are willing to help for free again.

Javascript world is going thru the same phenomena, rewriting a pack of opensource linting/formatting tools in rust. They say they specifically got the idea from ruff.
