I can't actually tell what is public on my #venmo account because I have to sign in to see what is "public". I can only simulate my own auth claims.
This is different from, say, linkedin where I can see what is public in the incognito window.

I can see I have 15 #venmo friends, which are actual auto-adds from my phone's contacts. I **can't see who these 15 people are** (at least not with naive clicking around... maybe this is one of those things where it only works on the iphone app and not elsewhere)
Elon should have bought venmo and twitter together ... wait, Jack Dorsey (10% less evil) should have bought them or he could have let Stripe copy Venmo.
One has a business model and wants to be a social media site and the other is a social media site that needs a business model.
