I wonder if the LinkedIn job market is broken like the online dating market is. Imagine if the job openings is exactly == the job seekers, and you as a hiring manager got 1,000 applications. And every job got 1,000 applications. Each party assumes they're in a glut market and put all of their attention on the top 1%. Those candidates get flooded with offers and 99% of employer wonder why they can't hire anyone.

Self-replies

Candidates figure out what is going on and do the rational thing- send even more resumes including to job that aren't a good fit. Hiring managers respond rationally and get even more picky. So the whole thing spirals out of control until someone gets hired by accident.
