Thinking about new "social media" servers, like meetup.com clones. It needs to have a really good "empty server" experience. Your empty mobilizon server needs to give initial users a really good reason to login for the 5+ years it takes before there is critical mass in the user base.

If I have to predict, mobilizon will become the go to place for organizing not-in-person events, e.g. majong or DnD over Zoom or finding a team for your multiplayer minecraft game.
Federating the Wash DC events server with the Timbuktu, Mali isn't going to create the synergy that federating the corresponding Mastodon servers would.
Tangent: every phpbb forum for the first few years is one person's blog. Also when these go into a death spiral, it becomes one person's blog as their content overwhelms the dwindling user base's.
